Rumors have swirled since news broke of Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly leaving for LSU, but St. Louis (Mo.) John Burroughs defensive lineman Tyson Ford remains committed to the Fighting Irish. And more specifically, to defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman.

Ford is the No. 122 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 ranks him slightly higher, pegging him as the nation’s No. 98 prospect and No. 15 defensive lineman.

“Coach Freeman! I was the first recruit you ever spoke to,” Ford wrote in a tweet. “Your words reminded me how great of a place Notre Dame is. I was with you then, and I’m still with you now. Everybody show love for #FreemanEra.”

The 6-foot-6, 270-pound Ford committed to Freeman and the Irish in January over offers from Clemson, Georgia, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and others. The Irish have yet to see any of the 23 prospects committed for the 2022 class decommit yet.

Ford is the the latest Notre Dame pledge to support Freeman, but he isn’t the only one. Four-star linebackers Joshua Burnham and Niuafe Tuihalamaka both tweeted their support for him being named the permanent head coach. As did five-star 2022 commit Jaylen Sneed and four-star 2023 commit Drayk Bowen.

Freeman has been rumored as a potential candidate to replace Kelly, but the ex-Notre Dame coach has reportedly offered Freeman to join him at LSU. The 35-year-old would likely become the highest-paid defensive coordinator in college football if that happens.
