Four-star Naples (Fla.) safety Devin Moore has decommitted from Notre Dame, he announced Tuesday afternoon on Twitter.

Moore is the No. 250 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 is significantly higher on him than the rest of the industry, ranking him as the nation’s No. 83 prospect and No. 5 safety.

“I would like to thank the Notre Dame coaches and fans for believing in me and welcoming me to their family,” Moore wrote. “Choosing a college is a huge decision and there are many factors to consider. I feel I need more time to figure out the best fit for me. After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to decommit from Notre Dame and reopen my recruitment. I will take this time to reevaluate my options and determine what is best for my future. I appreciate your patience and support while I finis my recruiting journey.”

The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder picked the Irish in July over offers from Stanford, Florida, LSU, Michigan State and others. He was one of the biggest risers in the most recent On300 rankings, jumping up 28 spots to No. 83 overall.

“The early graduate is long, and rangy at corner on senior tape,” On3’s Gerry Hamilton wrote. “He has the ability to stay attached, along with the arm length to create vision issues for receivers. He uses his combination of length and timing to defend 50-50 balls with PBUs. On3 projects at safety, but there is enough quality tape at corner to get a look there in South Bend. Moore has been very active on senior tape. He’s shown the ability to dislodge the ball from ball carriers.”

Devin Moore is Notre Dame’s first 2022 decommit after Brian Kelly’s departure

Moore is the first 2022 prospect to decommit from Notre Dame after news broke that head coach Brian Kelly is leaving to become the coach at LSU. A number of current Notre Dame commits have expressed their support for defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman to replace Kelly.

Florida cornerbacks coach Jules Montinar completed an in-home visit with Moore Monday night, and the Gators are sure to be one of a number of teams who will be in contact.
