Mike Brown is the newest coach to join Marcus Freeman‘s Notre Dame staff following the regular season as he’ll be coaching the Fighting Irish wide receivers moving forward.

Brown and Freeman have their fair share of history together but will now reunite in South Bend, and in a recent press conference, Freeman spoke about what Brown will bring to the table for the Fighting Irish.

“We added Mike Brown to our staff, which we announced last week,” Freeman said. “Mike’s obviously a guy that I worked with closely at Cincinnati and to me, the things that I remember most about our time together was the developer that he was of the entire room.”

“I’ve seen him truly develop that room at Cincinnati and I know people look at the draft picks that came out of that room but to me, it’s the from top to bottom seeing him develop young people.”

Brown joins Notre Dame after spending one season at Wisconsin, serving as the Badgers’ wide receivers coach and Associated Head Coach. But before that, he was on Cincinnati’s coaching staff during Freeman’s final two seasons with the Bearcats, and in his four seasons with the program had three wide receivers selected in the NFL Draft.

But according to Freeman, Davis is more than just a proven developer of wide receiver talent.

“The recruiter and evaluator he is, really just the guys I’ve seen him bring into that program and develop and the energy he brings. He brings an energy to this coaching staff, to that wide receiver’s room,” Freeman explained. “And last but not least, the husband, and the father, the person he is. I’m excited to get his wide Dymond here, his two sons, Three [Mike III] and Drue, and have them join our family.”

Brown sounds like the perfect package for the Fighting Irish, but the cherry on top is that he also has playing experience and has been in the same shoes as the wideouts he coaches, playing college football at Liberty and spending three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a wide receiver.

Brown’s coaching responsibilities have already begun, spending time with the Fighting Irish wide receivers in the preparation of their bowl game. He’ll make his coaching debut with the team later this month as Notre Dame takes on Oregon State in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl on December 29 at 2:00 p.m. ET in a matchup airing on CBS.
