Sam Hartman had quite the college career for Wake Forest and Notre Dame, but now it’s coming to an end.

Hartman posted an emotional thank you to sport for his years at both schools on Instagram. The ACC’s all-time passer finished the 2023 season with Notre Dame as a grad transfer.

The five minute video features highlights from his entire career.

It was later revealed Hartman would opt out of the Sun Bowl and focus on the NFL Draft.

This season, Hartman threw for 2,689 yards, 24 touchdowns, eight interceptions and a 63.5% completion percentage. Over the course of his career, Hartman has 15,656 yards, 134 touchdowns, 49 interceptions and a 59.8% completion percentage.

As a member of the Class of 2018, Hartman was a three-star recruit out of Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Oceanside Collegiate Academy, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 13 overall prospect in the state, the No. 54 quarterback in the class and the No. 776 overall prospect in the class.

Sam Hartman capping off amazing college football career

Hartman’s career is one for the books. His final collegiate year, at Notre Dame, was supposed to put the Fighting Irish over the hump and put them in College Football Playoff contention.

The team fell short of those expectations. But Hartman still had a fine season. But will he be remembered for this short tenure or for his five years at Wake Forest?

According to Demon Deacons coach Dave Clawson, it’s Wake Forest by a landslide.

“That’s reality, and there’s no point in complaining about it. You know, we saw it last week in South Bend. Here’s a guy that we recruited, and we developed. You know, they’re putting a video on him saying, ‘We will always love you.’ Like, you only dated him for a couple of months. It can’t be love. We’re the ones that love him. We had five years with him. You rented him for a season,” Clawson said. “They bought him and rented him for a year, and now they love him.

“When that video played, it’s just like, ‘Holy cow, this is where college football is.’ … It is what it is. Sam and I had a great discussion before the game and after the game, and I love the young man. I really do. I don’t blame him at all for what he did. I mean, you can’t — that’s the system now. For him to have the opportunity to have that experience, and make that type of money in one year, who can fault him.”
