Devin Brown isn’t interested in the outside noise. On Monday, the Ohio State quarterback addressed the rumors that he is going to transfer out of the program.

“I think people are cowards. I think people have this thought in their own head that I’m gonna leave and I’m a quitter but that’s never been me,” Brown said.

After QB Kyle McCord transferred to Syracuse following the regular season, Brown was named the Buckeyes’ starter in the Cotton Bowl. However, Brown was unable to show off his talent, suffering an ankle injury early in the second quarter of the team’s 14-3 loss to Missouri.

In his limited time on the field, Brown completed 4-of-his-6 pass attempts for 20 total yards. Brown’s backup, Lincoln Kienholz wasn’t able to find any more success, completing 6-of-his-17 passes for 86 yards and no touchdowns.

With the team’s lackluster performance, it didn’t take long for Ohio State fans to campaign for a transfer quarterback. The fans’ demands were answered when Ohio State added former Kansas State standout Will Howard, via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Howard touts a 14-11 record in 25 career starts. His best season came this past fall, throwing for 2,643 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing a career-high 61.3% of his passes.

As a former five-star prospect, Brown could have easily transferred to a new program. However he had other plans. Devin Brown remained put, and he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. When asked about those who speculated about him leaving the program, Brown didn’t bite his tongue.

“They don’t know sh*t,” Brown said, per Buckeye Huddle’s Tony Gerdeman.

Ryan Day is happy with Devin Brown’s progress

In two seasons at OSU, Brown boasts eight appearances. He has notched 16 completions for 217 yards and two touchdowns while only throwing one interception. OSU head coach Ryan Day believes Brown has improved even more this offseason.

“He’s had a really good couple of weeks,” Day said in February. “That quarterback room is really interesting seeing the dynamic there. With a bunch of guys who look like they like hanging out together. It’s going to be a fierce competition this spring. But there’s already some camaraderie in that room. And Devin really has the most experience out of that group coming back.

“He’s shown really good leadership. Even coming off the [Cotton Bowl], a little bit disappointing being injured and everything, but he’s rehabbed well, and he’s really done a nice job so far with Mick [Marotti]. Excited to see the spring.”
