Personal Life
In his third season at Ohio State, Kyle McCord was named the starting quarterback early in the 2023 season, becoming only the third permanent starter under coach Ryan Day at Ohio State, joining C.J. Stroud and Justin Fields. Both Stroud and Fields became Heisman Trophy finalists for the Buckeyes and first-round picks in the NFL Draft after two years under center. McCord arrived in Columbus with an impressive high school resume. He was ranked by On3 as a five-star recruit and the No. 4 quarterback prospect in the 2021 recruiting class coming out of Philadelphia's St. Joseph's High School. He led St. Joseph's to its third straight state title in his senior season. During the 2021 season at Ohio State, McCord played in five games and threw for 416 yards and two scores. In 2022, he appeared in seven games with 190 yards passing and one touchdown toss. During his high school days, McCord played with Ohio State teammate Marvin Harrison Jr. His father, Derk McCord, played quarterback at Rutgers from 1988-1992.
