Ohio State defense gearing up for latest test from Maryland attack

You want your team to be as healthy as it can be coming out of the bye week since it’s off to the races from that point on. That’s why Ryan Day’s update on RB Miyan Williams is as positive as it sounded on Thursday.

Day had a brief yet great update on Williams during his press conference heading into Ohio State’s return from the bye against Maryland this weekend. After seeing just a single snap against Notre Dame, Day shared that the Buckeye’s third-leading rusher will be ready to rock against the Terrapins on Saturday.

“He’s full-go,” said Day. “He’s full-go, he’s healthy, and he’s ready to roll.”

Over Ohio State’s first three games, Williams rushed 18 times for 73 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He finds himself well behind TreVeyon Henderson and Chip Trayanum in both carries and rushing yards while being in a tie with Trayanum in scores.

Any concerns about Williams’ health might be why he’s seeing fewer carries so far this fall. Last season, he was Ohio State’s leading rusher with 825 yards and 14 touchdowns off of 128 carries on the year.

Ohio State will want all hands on deck in order to hang some points on a Maryland defense that currently ranks in the Top-20. Their chances of doing so are much improved with a full stable of backs available with Williams ready and set according to Day.

Day addresses Marvin Harrison Jr.’s health

Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State’s star receiver, suffered an ankle injury in the team’s win over Notre Dame two weeks ago. Even so, the veteran wideout appears ready to play this weekend against Maryland.

Harrison said he’s “good enough” to play against the Terrapins and Ryan Day reiterated that sentiment on Thursday afternoon.

“Looks good,” Day said. “Had a really good week of practice and looks ready to roll.”

Harrison injured his ankle on a play in which he helped set up a key block for running back TreVeyon Henderson. The block sprang Henderson for a 61-yard touchdown run.

The veteran wideout would return to the game after getting some brief treatment, even securing a critical catch on the final drive at the end of the game.

Harrison himself described himself as available to play this weekend against the Terrapins.

“I’m good enough,” Harrison said. “It’s worse than the one last year, but I’m good enough to play.”

On the season, Harrison has 17 catches for 336 yards and three touchdowns.
