Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel announced on social media that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Gabriel spent the last two seasons with Oklahoma after spending the previous three with UCF, having been a starter for five seasons of his college career. He still has one more season of eligibility remaining.

In his announcement on social media, Dillon Gabriel penned a heartfelt letter to Oklahoma fans. In it, he expressed how grateful he is for his time with the Sooners.

“The past 2 years here at OU as a Sooner I have made memories with friends and family that remind me how blessed I am. I have been able to play football for an amazing group of coaches and alongside men who have become my brothers. More than anything I have grown in faith and love. I appreciate and cherish these memories and relationships forever,” Gabriel wrote.

“My time in the palace was a game time experience I will never forget. Sooner Nation, you held me accountable and I am better for it. Coach BV, my coaches, and the football staff, I am grateful for your care, knowledge and insight. Most of all, thanks for your faith in me and the opportunity to lead and be a member of OU’s Team 128 and 129.”

This season, Gabriel led the Sooners to a 10-2 record in the regular season. In 12 games this season, he completed 69.3 percent of passes for 3,660 yards and 30 touchdowns. He only threw six interceptions.

Dillon Gabriel transferred to Oklahoma ahead of the 2022 season, after having briefly been committed to UCLA. He played three seasons at UCF while only using one year’s worth of eligibility due to the pandemic and an injury that kept him out of most of the 2021 season. He is a native of Hawaii.

When Dillon Gabriel lands at a new school, it will be his third in six college seasons. Jeff Lebby, who was his offensive coordinator at both UCF and Oklahoma recently became the head coach at Mississippi State.

Dillon Gabriel reflects on OU career

On Senior Day, Dillon Gabriel took the time to reflect on his two seasons at Oklahoma.

“It’s kind of unique how we both needed one another,” Gabriel said. “I’d say the football team and myself and being able to get back with Coach Leb and play for Coach BV, it’s something that, like I said, has been a great experience. This year’s still been a rollercoaster I would say, but just learning to stick with it and stay as even keel as possible but I love it here.”
