Ole Miss fell to Arkansas on the road on Saturday, plagued by an injury to Matthew Murrell that limited the junior guard quite a bit.

Murrell was able to record 24 minutes but was limited to just three points on 1-of-5 shooting and he failed to record a rebound.

“He said it was his knee,” coach Kermit Davis said. “(Athletic trainer) Andrew (Beyke) looked at the play. I was blocked out, I couldn’t see it. He feels better that somebody stepped on it, it wasn’t kind of a plant, you know? Not to speculate at all, but that’s what he said. But it was definitely his right knee.”

With Murrell limited, Ole Miss had trouble finding enough offense to stay competitive in the contest.

Arkansas simply had more shot attempts in every category on Saturday.

Injury to Matthew Murrell threw off team’s rhythm

Arkansas was battling to snap a four-game losing skid, and the Razorbacks came out motivated. Even before the injury to Matthew Murrell, Ole Miss was finding quality looks hard to come by.

Arkansas led by three at the break, then poured it on in the second half. Ole Miss couldn’t find enough answers.

“Coach’s decision not to play TJ (Caldwell) based on being late for workout, so without him we tried to give James White and Tye Fagan and tried to play Amaree (Abram) and Daeshun (Ruffin) together. Daeshun got going a little bit in the second half and then that helped.

“But even before Matt got hurt we still didn’t have a great rhythm. They did a good job on him.”

Ole Miss will return to action on Tuesday with a home game against Missouri, with the game slated for a 7 p.m. ET tip on the SEC Network.
