Lane Kiffin always keeps things interesting, doesn’t he? Just hours before the annual Egg Bowl between Mississippi State and Ole Miss, the Rebels head coach hit Twitter again for a little trolling.

Kiffin tweeted out a picture from a dining area with his team. Highlighted at the front of the picture were Kiffin’s son Knox, quarterback Luke Altmyer and receiver Malik Heath.

Knox is holding what appears to a Missisppi State towel that has been partially shredded, sporting a big smile as Heath grins and Altmyer looks on. Kiffin’s caption?

Spoiler: Altmyer is from Starkville, Miss., the home of the Bulldogs. And Heath is a former Mississippi State wideout who initially signed with the Bulldogs before transferring to Ole Miss.

Think there will be a little extra energy today in the annual Egg Bowl?

Annual Egg Bowl carries interesting undercurrent

While Kiffin didn’t hesitate to do a little trolling on Twitter ahead of the annual Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving Day, there’s a definite undercurrent of unease heading into Thursday’s game.

All week long headlines have crossed the wire about Kiffin and the open Auburn head coaching job, with reports surfacing that Kiffin might be headed out to take the job after the Egg Bowl, only for Kiffin to directly refute that report.

Then on Wednesday night, On3’s Matt Zenitz reported Kiffin met with his players on Wednesday evening and told them that he would remain as coach for the Rebels “unless something significantly changes.”

What that means exactly, and what type of significant changes might be able to change the math in the equation, remains to be seen.

In any case, you can expect the annual Egg Bowl to be fiercely competitive again. Both programs have hit a bit of a late-season lull, with Ole Miss losing three of its last four and Mississippi State dropping three of its last five.

Pride and bragging rights are on the line.

The two programs will kick off tonight at 7 with a national broadcast on ESPN.
