On Monday, Ole Miss defensive tackle Demarcus Smith announced he plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. He spent three seasons with the Rebels.

In the 2023 campaign, Smith appeared in two games and made one tackle. Smith did not see action in his first two seasons at Ole Miss. He used his redshirt during his true freshman season.

Demarcus Smith played high school football at Parker (AL), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 585 overall recruit in the 2921 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Along with his decision to transfer, Smith posted a heartfelt message to fans.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude for the valuable experiences and opportunities I’ve had during my time at Ole Miss,” Smith wrote. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my academic and extracurricular journey at Ole Miss, and I am truly grateful for the friendships and memories that I have made.

“After careful consideration and reflection on my academic and personal goals, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility left. I appreciate the support and guidance I have received from the faculty, staff, and my peers during my tenure at Ole Miss. I am confident that the skills and knowledge l’ve gained here will serve as a strong foundation for my future endeavors.”

Smith will be the 17th Ole Miss player to enter the transfer portal during or since the 2023 campaign. The team has also added 18 players via the portal, earning the No. 2 spot in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

Joshua Harris played high school football at Person (NC), where he was a four-star prospect there and the No. 257 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
