Ole Miss is trending to add another blue-chip prospect to its 2024 recruiting class, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Lancaster (Texas) four-star running back Kewan Lacy backed off of his commitment to Nebraska on Oct. 26. Immediately, a swarm of SEC programs rushed into his recruitment. Ole Miss was in the running for the 5-foot-11, 195-pounder before he pledged to the Cornhuskers. Now Lane Kiffin and Co. are battling Alabama and Missouri for the Lone Star burner.

Earlier this week, Lacy told On3’s Sam Spiegelman that he was edging closer to a decision between those three schools. Kiffin and some of the Ole Miss staff were in Lancaster last weekend to watch Lacy’s final high school game.

Lacy has visited Mizzou and Alabama since re-opening his recruitment, but signs are pointing to Oxford, as Speigelman and Ole Miss insider Zach Berry have each logged RPM picks in favor of the Rebels, giving them a 64.8% chance to pick up the tailback’s pledge.

“I like really like the family environment and the feel I get from them. It’s more than football; it’s a family aspect,” Lacy told Spiegelman. “Coach Kiffin is a good offensive mind and he knows how to use a lot of weapons in their system. I’d be a great fit in their system and Coach Smith is a great coach. He’s different from the rest — the way he coaches — and I’ve been to a lot of schools and some coaches just coach differently.”

Lacy is the No. 256 overall prospect and No. 18 RB in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 ranks Lacy higher than other recruiting services, as he checks in as the No. 85 recruit and No. 6 RB in the latest On300.

In-person evaluation of Kewan Lacy

Spiegelman has seen Lacy in-person this fall and has come away impressed by skill-set and potential. He would be one of Ole Miss’ centerpiece pledges in the 2024 cycle if he were to pick the Rebels.

“Lacy’s season came an end in the second quarter with an ankle injury, but not before the 2024 RB made his mark as the centerpiece of the Lancaster (Texas) offense. As a runner, as a slot receiver, and as a pass-catcher out of the backfield, Lacy was dynamic with the ball in his hands,” Spiegelman wrote. “He’s got a suddenness to his running style, and is equally as impactful in and out of his cuts and running through contact. Lacy is an extremely gifted pass-catcher and also thrashing in between the tackles.”
