Texas A&M defensive lineman Shemar Turner was ejected from Saturday’s game against Ole Miss for throwing a punch early in the second half.

Rebels offensive lineman Micah Pettus stayed on his block against Turner for longer than he appreciated before retaliating with a punch to the leg and another to the upper body before the camera cut away and the two players were separated.

Was Pettus being too aggressive? Or was Turner’s reaction warranted? Decide for yourself below:

Turner has been Texas A&M’s most disruptive defender against the Rebels and even has a blocked field goal to his credit on the afternoon — which was returned for a touchdown in the first half. Before his ejection, he totaled two tackles on the day but was a disruptive presence to Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart throughout the afternoon.

On the season, Turner has totaled 25 tackles including five sacks and two forced fumbles. Still, the Aggies have fought back enough to have a shot to take the lead over Ole Miss in the fourth quarter.

Lane Kiffin on Texas A&M’s first half comeback

Ole Miss can only blame itself for keeping the Aggies in the game, shooting itself in the foot twice in the second quarter against Texas A&M. After leading the Aggies 14-0 after the first quarter, the Rebels entered halftime with a 20-14 lead behind a handful of plays that went Texas A&M’s way.

After an Ole Miss touchdown was erased by a holding call, followed by a blocked field goal for the Aggies and a touchdown on the ensuing offensive possession — head coach Lane Kiffin isn’t making any excuses for allowing Texas A&M to climb back into the game during the second quarter.

“We gave it to them. They made a good block on the play,” Kiffin said of the blocked field goal in the second quarter. “That’s a 10-point play. We’re kicking a field goal but instead, we give them momentum and they’re scoring the other way after a touchdown called back for holding.

“That’s on us.”

Still, Kiffin likes the way his offense is moving and aside from a couple of plays — believes that Ole Miss should have at least a slightly larger lead.

“So far, aside from a 10-point play, it would be a 16-point game,” Kiffin continued. “We have to go in and regroup. This will be a four-quarter game.”
