Pete Nakos Breaking Down Jabbar Muhammad's Transfer Committment, Fit With Oregon | 01.28.24

Oregon landed another big-time prospect of the transfer portal over the weekend, with former Washington cornerback Jabbar Muhammad committing to the Ducks to close out his collegiate career.

According to On3’s 2024 College Football Transfer Portal Player Rankings, Muhammad was the No. 12 ranked player in the transfer portal this offseason and the No. 1 cornerback. And following his commitment, On3’s Andy Staples and Pete Nakos discussed all the details of Muhammad’s move to the Huskies’ rival from just last season.

“The interesting thing about Jabbar Muhammad is when he went in the portal right after Kalen DeBoer took the Alabama job, Texas and Oregon made in-home visits,” Nakos said. “And right after that had a source I really trust reach out to me and say that this is gonna be Oregon’s to watch, would be very surprised if he went elsewhere and I reported that throughout his recruitment.”

Washington has had 23 players enter the transfer portal since DeBoer’s move to Tuscaloosa, with Muhammad’s transfer representing the second of his career after transferring into Washington last offseason after spending three seasons at Oklahoma State. Quickly becoming one of the most coveted players in the transfer portal this offseason following his impressive season during Washington’s journey to the national championship.

“And obviously he took the official visits to Texas and Alabama and the whole time I was continuing to be told that Oregon was gonna be the school to watch, and then he made the official visit this weekend as Justin Hopkins reported from Scoop Duck and then yeah, he committed. And it’s another just huge pickup for Dan Lanning in the portal, especially in that secondary,” Nakos explained.

Muhammad represents the fourth player to join the Ducks’ this offseason from the transfer portal that ranks within the top 20 of On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings, joining quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Dante Moore along with wide receiver Evan Stewart.

He also represents an area of need for the Ducks, who lost First Team All-Conference cornerback Khyree Jackson to the NFL Draft this offseason. Further setting up Oregon for success ahead of their first season in the Big Ten Conference.

“If I am in Eugene right now in the Oregon facility and I’m Dan Lanning I feel like we have a great roster that has one of the best chances of any team in the Big Ten to win the league in our first year making that jump,” Nakos said. “And I would have to think that it’s gonna be College Football Playoff or bust for the Ducks.”
