Hudson Card is no longer a Longhorn, but he still has love for Texas. On Thursday, the Purdue quarterback discussed his time in Austin, Texas.

“My time at Texas was very unique and very memorable for me. I think it ultimately is going to make me a better person and a better player. I think if I didn’t go through those times at Texas, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

“Shout out to Coach Herman and Coach Sarkisian. Seriously, they taught me so much, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them, as well. I wish them nothing but the best this year. A lot of my friends are obviously still on that team, so I keep in touch with them,” Card said at Big Ten Media Days.

Hudson Card proved his worth last season when Texas’ QB1 Quinn Ewers went down with an injury in the Longhorns’ season opener against Alabama. Card stepped up to the challenge. In 12 appearances and three starts in 2022, Card completed 75-of-108 passes (69.4%) for 928 yards and six touchdowns.

The spectacular statistics in limited showings made Card a valuable transfer portal target. Purdue head coach Ryan Walters welcomed Card with open arms. The former four-star prospect is expected to take over Aidan O’Connell’s QB1 spot for the Boilermakers.

Card isn’t the first Longhorn to leave for the Big Ten. Card’s former teammate, Casey Thompson, played at Texas for four years before transferring to Nebraska in 2022. Thompson found relative success, recording 2,407 passing yards and 17 touchdowns while adding five rushing touchdowns.

The pair still communicate from time to time.

“We still keep in touch. He was happy for me. And you know, he just went through the same same thing that I did,” Card said.

Card hopes to find even more success than Thompson in his new home. Nonetheless, the change won’t come without its challenges.

“Hudson Card, there’s a lot resting on him,” Gold and Black’s Alan Karpick recently said on the On3 Roundtable. “Just because he comes in with the accolades, comes in from Texas. He’s been the starter since Day One. He’s a guy that has shown well in practice. We haven’t been able to see a lot of practice but from all accounts, he’s the real deal for Purdue.”

Watch Card make his debut for the Boilermakers on Sept. 2 as the team takes on Fresno State.
