Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson is making her teammates pay the price after South Carolina, her alma mater, won its third national title Sunday. Wilson posted a meme on X shortly after the championship victory naming a long list of people who had to don Gamecocks gear after their college teams lost to South Carolina this season.

Considering the Gamecocks went undefeated, that was more than half of the Aces’ roster. Tennessee alum Candace Parker even had to do so twice after South Carolina finished 3-0 against the Vols this season (perhaps she was wise enough not to make a third wager).

Others who lost bets to Wilson this season included Kelsey Plum (Washington), Chelsea Gray (Duke) and Jackie Young (Notre Dame). In total there were seven of her teammates who attended schools that lost to the Gamecocks this past season.

“Welp.. let’s me get ready for training camp,” she wrote.

South Carolina completed its perfect season on Sunday with an 87-75 victory against Iowa in the title game. The Gamecocks got 19 points from freshman Tessa Johnson off the bench as well as 15 points and 17 rebounds from Kamilla Cardoso, who will soon join Wilson in the WNBA.

The national title was the third in program history for the Gamecocks, and Wilson played a part in bringing them their first in 2017. She averaged 17.9 points to lead the team that season, finishing with 23 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks in the championship victory.

Wilson went on to become the No. 1 pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft to Las Vegas, where she has spent the entirety of six-year career to this point. She won Rookie of the Year in 2018 and has twice won the league’s MVP award (2020, 2022). She’s continued her winning ways in the pros as the Aces have won back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023.

This past season, Wilson earned her second straight Defensive Player of the Year award as she averaged 22.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 1.4 steals per game. She’ll aim to keep up her impressive play and lead Las Vegas to a threepeat, but until then, she’ll have plenty of chances to brag to her teammates during training camp.

The 2024 WNBA season is set to tip off in a little more than a month on May 14.
