Shane Beamer hints at SEC coach he would be happy to beat on the field, fight

More times than not, there is unity within the SEC. Conference members continually attempt to show unity, especially when it comes to league-wide decisions. Even so, coaches are not always going to get along and are going to beef back and forth with one another. Shane Beamer is no different despite being a relatively new head coach.

Beamer was originally having a fun conversation about which coach he would like to fight. Sam Pittman was brought up, with the South Carolina headman thinking he could take his former colleague. However, Beamer did get serious for a moment, saying there is a certain head coach he would really like to beat on the field.

“My wife and I literally just had that conversation this morning about a team in the SEC,” Beamer said on the Bussin With The Boys podcast. “That goes back to who I would want to fight. There’s one in particular right now that I am not really high on. My wife literally just said ‘we need — this year when we play them — yadda, yadda, yadda.”

There could be a few coaches Beamer is talking about, with South Carolina having mini rivalries with a few teams inside the SEC East. Beamer has mentioned Kentucky and Tennessee fans by name previously but that was more specific to the Gamecocks having success and they were not tweeting as much.

Could Josh Heupel or Mark Stoops be who Beamer is talking about? It’s quite possible, even if South Carolina got wins against both of them last season.

SEC losses from a year ago that will appear on the schedule this season appear as the following — Georgia, Missouri, and Florida. Of those three, Eli Drinkwitz might be a candidate, especially since the two programs have a trophy they play each other for.

Texas A&M is South Carolina’s annual SEC West crossover opponent and a couple of coaches in the conference have voiced their displeasure with Jimbo Fisher. Beamer would certainly not be alone in that feeling if Fisher was the one he was discussing.

Either way, watching Gamecock’s fourth quarters will be interesting this upcoming season. He even promised on the podcast to potentially discuss the game if they are able to pull off a win.

Being petty within the conference can bring out a lot of emotion. A fun new wrinkle to discuss here in March and something to write down to remember in the fall.
