South Carolina debuts new entrance for Cocky at Williams-Brice

South Carolina true freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers saw his first game action Saturday as the Gamecocks led 34-14 against Furman. Sellers entered the game in the third quarter and it didn’t take long for him to make a big play.

After completing his first pass attempt for 10 yards, Sellers stepped back and launched a perfectly placed ball to receiver Tyshawn Russell, a fellow true freshman. The result was a 50-yard touchdown that marked the first in the career of both players the pass found Russell in stride as he entered the end zone. You can view the moment below.

It again took Sellers only two passes before he scored his second career touchdown on the very next drive. That one ended up being a seven-yard touchdown to five-star true freshman Nyckoles Harbor, which was the first of his career. He finished the contest a perfect 4-for-4 passing for 86 yards and a touchdown as the Gamecocks won 47-21.

“My thought was to not force anything and just play the play out,” Sellers said of his 50-yard TD pass. “And then, I looked to the left…Well, first of all, I wasn’t supposed to do that. But I felt like I had time where I could just make the touchdown and it worked.”

LaNorris Sellers committed to South Carolina as a four-star recruit out of South Florence (SC) High School. He ranked as the No. 21 quarterback and No. 4 player from South Carolina in the 2023 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Russell ranked as the No. 1,171 overall prospect and No. 51 athlete in the 2023 class.

Overall, it was a massive day for the South Carolina offense, which totaled 571 yards. Eight different Gamecocks players scored a touchdown giving even some of the new names a chance to leave their mark on this one.
