Who needs Yelp when you have Spencer Rattler?

If you were trying to decide on where to go out to dinner next in Columbia, wait no longer — the newly-minted Gamecocks quarterback has you covered. Joining Gamecock Central, Rattler revealed the best restaurants he’s been to since coming to town.

Home Team BBQ is pretty good. I know I’ve got to go to some more barbecue spots,” started Rattler. “Village Idiot Pizza is good. I live right by Kingsman. You know what Kingsman is? That small little restaurant? You’ve got to go there. It’s really, really good. Small, old — you’ll be surprised when you walk in. But great food, good people.

“Yeah, those are a few spots I like. I don’t really go out to eat too much, but you know. Halls Chop House. Been there a few times. Very good. But yeah. If you got any other recommendations, just let me know.”

A transfer from Oklahoma, Rattler ranks as the No. 3 quarterback and No. 5 overall player according to On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings. He is is coming off of a disappointing season with the Sooners that saw him benched midway through the year, but still brings lots of potential with him to South Carolina.

As a high school recruit in 2019, Rattler ranked as the No. 1 overall quarterback according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. During just his second college season in 2020, he threw for 3,031 yards, 28 touchdowns and seven interceptions while leading Oklahoma to a conference title.

As Spencer Rattler takes over the quarterback position in Shane Beamer‘s second season in-charge, Gamecocks faithful will hope his skills as a restaurant reviewer mirror his football prowess.

Spencer Rattler shares his perfect day away from football

Although football occupies most of Spencer Rattler’s schedule, the summer months provide him with a bit of down time as the sport is not in season. When that happens, the South Carolina quarterback prefers to enjoy some of the simple things life has to offer.

As he revealed to Gamecock Central recently, Rattler likes to spend his time catching up on chores and eating good. However, ever the athlete, he also has to feed his competitive side with another sport.

“My perfect day off is waking up, ordering a good breakfast, cleaning up my place,” Rattler said. “Going to play 18 holes somewhere. Some golf. Then just coming back and making a nice dinner, maybe getting a dinner and picking it up. Then just showering and turning on a movie and just chilling.”

It hasn’t been all play and no work this offseason for the new South Carolina quarterback, as Spencer Rattler has been grinding both the football field and in the weight room. He already claims he has added some weight, which he believes will help him ahead of 2022.,

The Gamecocks will hope that Rattler is able to recapture some of that magic this season in Columbia. He’ll get his first opportunity to show how he has improved when South Carolina opens the season on Sept. 3 against Georgia State.
