Joe Milton spoke about the luxury of Peyton Manning at Tennessee during the Manning Passing Academy held at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.

A Tennessee legend, Manning hangs around in Knoxville and is more than happy to help the current crop of players. For Milton, QB1, it’s a blessing to have the Hall of Famer give him advice.

So while Manning hands out advice, Milton might as well take it.

“You get a better connection, because you know he’s gonna be at the games and know that he’s gonna be in a facility,” Milton said. “We also get to pick his brain, you’re gonna get to understand what he was thinking, how he sees defenses, how he goes about a team, you know, and just pretty much just have fun.”

Milton could have a lot of fun this year with Tennessee. He stepped in for Hendon Hooker after the latter’s injury and had a banner Orange Bowl performance.

Now it’s up to Milton to build off of that.

In his limited action last year, Milton finished with 971 yards, 10 touchdowns, zero interceptions, a 64.6% completion percentage and 77 rushing yards.

Joe Milton can gain a lot from Peyton Manning

Manning shared how impressive Milton has been at the Academy. As the apparent Tennessee starting quarterback for 2023, Manning said Milton is poised for big things.

“I’ve enjoyed getting to know Joe,” Manning said. “We text occasionally and pull hard for him and I’m really proud of him coming in last year after Hendon’s injury and keeping things together and a great bowl win. A bowl win can do so much for a quarterback’s confidence, especially in his first year, really, as a starter. So I can tell Joe’s confident and I’m excited about him having a great senior year.”

Manning also shared an anecdote about Milton throwing with Marshall Manning, Peyton’s son and a camper at this year’s Academy.

“He was throwing yesterday with my son, Marshall, who’s attending the camp this year and I mean like 40 yards is like a little flick for him, just a warmup,” Manning said.

Tennessee fans can certainly picture it now: Milton gets advice from Manning and it leads to greater heights than 2022.

Georgia is the overwhelming favorite in the SEC East again, but the Volunteers might have the talent to steal the conference.

That’ll ultimately come down to Milton.
