With just three days until Tennessee football kicks off against Ball State, the Volunteers are preparing to be without linebacker William Mohan. The redshirt sophomore was suspended indefinitely last week after being arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault.

UT coach Josh Heupel spoke with reporters on Monday, where he was asked if there was any more news on the situation.

“I don’t have an update,” Heupel said. “We put it out as soon as we received information that he was suspended indefinitely from the program. We’ll let that process unfold here.”

Mohan enters his second season with Tennessee after transferring from Michigan ahead of the 2021 season. Last year he totaled nine tackles across 11 games while playing mostly on special teams. A former three star recruit, he ranked as the No. 480 overall player and No. 53 linebacker in the 2020 class according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average.

The Volunteers and Ball State are set to kick off at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday in Knoxville.

More on the assault charge against William Mohan

The incident occurred on the night of Aug. 21 and Mohan was arrested the next day following an arrest warrant, according to WVLT-TV. Officers were called to a domestic disturbance, but Mohan was gone by the time they arrived on the scene.

The victim told police she invited Mohan over, but he was drunk and allegedly choked her after she denied his attempt to initiate sex. He left, but ended up coming back and repeatedly knocking on the woman’s door until she let him in. After that passed out on the couch, and the victim used his phone to try and get him a ride home, WVLT reported.

Mohan was released on $4,000 bond and he is restricted from contacting victim in any manner, in person, on the phone or via messages.
