Caleb Williams, a walk-on linebacker at Tennessee, has entered his name into the transfer portal.

Williams started his career at Liberty where he did not see any action during his time in Lynchburg. He redshirted with the Flames before coming to play at Tennessee this year.

He did not make any appearances for the Volunteers either during his lone season on Rocky Top.

Williams played high school football at Christ Presbyterian Academy (TN) as a native of Franklin, TN located just south of Nashville. He was a recruit as part of the 2022 cycle that posted 42 tackles and a sack in his last prep season. During his senior year with the Lions, the team went 11-3 and made an appearance in the Division II-AA Playoffs.

Williams is the 13th player to leave Knoxville this offseason in the portal. 10 of those are on the defensive side of the football with several exiting from the secondary. He is one of two linebackers to leave the program with Meki Bigelow being the other. To this point, Bigelow is the only transfer that has left Tennessee who has yet to commit to a new program.

In turn, the Volunteers have made nine transfer additions for the No. 46 class per On3’s 2024 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That group includes five defensive players with one linebacker arriving in Eli Purcell (Wofford), a native of Knoxville that attended Farragut.

Tennessee lands commitment from LSU transfer OL Zalance Heard

Tennessee landed a major commitment out of the transfer portal this week in former five-star offensive lineman Zalance Heard from LSU per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

He served as a backup on the Tigers’ offensive line as a true freshman in 2023.

Zalance Heard played high school football at Neville (LA) where he was a five-star recruit. He was the No. 22 overall prospect in the 2023 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished as the No. 4 OT and the No. 1 player out of Louisiana behind only QB Arch Manning, the top overall player in the class.
