Texas A&M Aggies wide receiver Demond Demas is intending on entering the NCAA transfer portal, sources told On3 on Monday. A former five-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class, Demas played in 14 games while in College Station, making six starts during the 2021 season.

Shortly after the news broke, Demas released a statement via Twitter. He thanked everybody involved with the Texas A&M program, saying the decision to enter the transfer portal was not an easy one before discussing what the 12th man meant to him.

“After many long discussions with my family, friends teammates, agents, coaches, I have decided to make myself available for the 2022 NCAA portal,” Demas said. “The decision was not an easy one. It was a dream come true to play at Texas A&M University. Anyone who has watched a football game at Kyle Field knows that leaving the atmosphere, those Saturdays with filled excitement, and maroon & white, will be difficult for me. I cannot begin to tell you what the support of the school, my teammates, Coach Fisher, and the fans have meant to me over the last couple years.

“I will always remember the deep and real spirit of The 12th man. It’s not a myth. Anyone who has ever played football for Texas A&M knows that passion is real. Even though I didn’t get to be a Heisman Boy at AAM… I want to thank the Texas A&M Football program for everything. I look forward to what’s next and look forward to what is next and finding the best for help me achieve my dream of being an NFL wide receiver. Gig ’em. As always, I remain. Demond Demas …Hollywood.”

After not recording a reception as a true freshman, Demas showed improvement during the 2021 season, hauling in 15 passes for 235 yards. His career day came against the New Mexico Lobos, having two receptions for 100 yards and his lone touchdown while wearing a Texas A&M jersey.

Demas was ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver in his class coming out of high school, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services. Originally from Tomball, TX, Demas was the No. 4 prospect within the state and No. 26 overall in the country.

Before committing to Texas A&M, Demas had a top-five school list that included the Alabama Crimson TideGeorgia BulldogsOklahoma Sooners, and Texas Longhorns. Recruited by some of the best programs in the country, pending his legal situation, the talented wide receiver should be a highly sought-after player in the transfer portal.
