Texas landed its third commit in the 2023 class Saturday in Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley four-star linebacker S’Maje Burrell.

That means the program is now eligible to be ranked in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking, which requires a minimum of three verbals to be included.

The three-man class starts at No. 10 in the ranking, right behind two Big 12 rivals in Oklahoma and Texas Tech. The Sooners four-player class ranks eighth while the Red Raiders are just ahead of their in-state rivals at No. 9.

In order to create the most comprehensive and unbiased Team Recruiting Ranking, the On3 Team Recruiting Ranking is solely based on the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking is the most advanced and accurate team ranking in the industry.

Burrell joined Houston C.E. King four-star defensive lineman Dylan Spencer and Arlington (Texas) Seguin four-star safety Jamel Johnson in the Longhorns recruiting class. Spencer committed to Texas on the Ides of March, while Johnson was the first commit of the class, announcing his commitment last November.

All three players are ranked in the top 300 of the On3 Consensus. Spencer leads the group at No. 168 overall, followed by Johnson at No. 178 and Burrell at No. 258.

Burrell — who picked the Longhorns over Baylor, Florida State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas Tech, USC and Utah — is the highest ranked of the group in the 2023 On300 ranking. He is the No. 74 overall and No. 3 linebacker in the cycle, according to On3.

USC has the top class in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking at the moment with two five-star verbals and one high four-star recruit.

Head coach Steve Sarkisan and the Longhorns are looking to continue the recruiting momentum established in the 2022 cycle when they finished fifth in the 2022 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking, which was their first top-five finish since 2019.
