Texas offers USC 4-star WR commit Ja'Kobi Lane
Mesa (Ariz.) Red Mountain four-star wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane received an offer from Texas on Thursday night. Lane has been committed to USC since Aug. 26.
Lane is the No. 358 overall prospect and No. 52 wide receiver in the 2023 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 8 player in Arizona.
On3 rates him even higher. Even though he is not ranked in the 2023 On300, Lane is the No. 46 wide receiver and No. 6 player in Arizona.
Lane is one of three wide receivers in USC’s 2023 recruiting class, which ranks No. 13 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 2 in the Pac-12. The others are Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman Five-Star Plus+ wideout Zachariah Branch and Los Alamitos (Calif.) four-star wide receiver Makai Lemon, who is high school teammates with USC Five-Star Plus+ quarterback commit Malachi Nelson.

Meanwhile, Texas’ 2023 class is No. 7 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 2 in the Big 12. The Longhorns have two committed wide receivers in DeSoto (Texas) four-star Johntay Cook II and Houston (Texas) Aldine Eisenhower four-star Ryan Niblett.
A 6-foot-5, 180-pound wideout, Lane has an On3 NIL Valuation of $39K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Jumped a freaky 34-inch vertical for his size during the spring camp circuit prior to his junior season. Body positioning and balance is second to none compared to other X-type receivers in the 2023 recruiting cycle. Natural pass catcher who has strong hands and plucks the ball with ease.
“Totaled 76 catches for 990 yards and 14 touchdowns during his junior campaign. Solid twitch for his size, can get off the line of scrimmage. Lacks top end speed in order to separate from defenders when pushing vertically.
