Justyn Martin will never forget that last two days for the rest of his life.

One day after committing to UCLA, Martin blew past a California high school record by tossing 13 touchdowns for Inglewood (Calif.) High against Inglewood (Calif.) Morningside. And, incredibly, he broke the previous record before the end of the first half.

The previous record was nine touchdowns held by three different players: Robert De La Cruz, Quinn Commans and Jared Heywood. De La Cruz accomplished the feat twice and Heywood played for Inglewood before Martin.

MaxPreps reports that his 13 touchdowns are the second most in high school history behind a Nebraskan named Arthur Smith. Smith threw 15 touchdowns in a game in 1921 for Cozad (Neb.). He also scored 10 rushing touchdowns in a 201-7 win Overton (Neb.)

Inglewood scored four touchdowns on its first four plays — with Martin scoring all of them. Martin opened the game with a 34-yard touchdown and kept going.

The score was 52-0 at the end of the first quarter with Martin throwing six touchdowns.

He broke the record on a 48-yard touchdown in the final minute of the second quarter to go up 86-0.

He tossed only three more touchdowns in the second half as the running clock led to only a few offensive plays being run.

Inglewood has outscored opponents 405-45 on the season. Morningside finishes it season 2-8.

Justyn Martin committed to UCLA on Thursday

Justyn Martin chose UCLA over Michigan and Ole Miss. He had previously decommitted from Cal in September.

He told On3’s Chad Simmons that he chose UCLA for its ability to help him on the field and in the classroom.

“I really like the direction the UCLA program is going,” Martin said. “Coach Kelly has done it before at a big program, he knows how to win, and he is turning it around at UCLA.”

Martin is the No. 132 overall recruit in the 2022 On300 rankings and the ninth-best quarterback in the class. In the On3 Consensus, the four-star slots in at No. 206.

On3 Director of Recruiting and Scouting Charles Power said Martin is the most physically talented quarterback Kelly has signed in Westwood.

“Martin is a big quarterback who pairs a strong arm with above-average mobility,” Power said. “He can drive the ball down the field and make some second-reaction plays with his feet. Martin has longer arms which can lead to a longer throwing motion but has worked to quicken things up. Landing a talented passer from their back yard is certainly a nice development for the Bruins.”
