USC‘s Caleb Williams couldn’t be happier to have a player the caliber of Travis Dye in the backfield with him.

Speaking with the media, the Trojans quarterback couldn’t say enough good things about his running back’s performance on the season.

“Travis is awesome. I love having Travis next to me in the backfield. Smart, he may not be the biggest guy but he has one of the biggest hearts. He doesn’t care who’s coming, if a linebacker is coming down the a-gap, he’s coming with a full head of steam. Travis is going to do his best and probably knock him on his tail,” stated Williams. “So I believe in Trav when he has the ball in his hands, I believe in Trav when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands, and that says a lot about him.”

Thus far, Dye has amassed 647 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns on 101 carries for the Trojans. Additionally, he’s caught 16 passes from Williams, adding 157 receiving yards to his statistics, as well.

As USC looks to rebound following a tough loss to Utah last weekend over the remainder of the season, Caleb Williams and Travis Dye’s connection will be paramount to their success moving forward.

Caleb Williams shares goals for USC bye week

Moreover, Caleb Williams and USC enter the bye week in uncharted territory. The Trojans lost their first game of the season last week on the road against Utah, dropping their record to 6-1 on the year.

But Williams had one message as he and the team enter the week off. They need to stay the course.

“I said this after the game, with all the emotions running high … the only thing that we were wiping off the board is that we are not going to go undefeated,” Williams said. “That’s the only thing I can guarantee. We’re focused on, right now, this bye week. We haven’t been focused on the next team that we’re going to play. We’ve been focused on making sure we nail down all the consistent things that we need to be better at.”

Against Utah last week, Williams went 25 for 42 for 385 yards and five touchdowns to lead the USC offense. He went mano-a-mano with Utes quarterback Cameron Rising, who threw for more than 400 yards to help Utah to the upset victory.

After the bye week, USC will take on Arizona Oct. 29.
