The rivalry between USC and UCLA is one of the iconic annual games on the college football calendar. This year, the two quarterbacks, Caleb Williams and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, are both Black, which is an exciting prospect for Williams.

While speaking to the media, Caleb Williams explained why he thinks it’s awesome to have the USC-UCLA rivalry feature two Black quarterbacks.

“It’s awesome, to be honest,” Caleb Williams said. “There hasn’t been a Black quarterback here, and that was one of the first things that I was told. There hasn’t been a Black quarterback here in a really long time.”

“So, that was really cool and really awesome. Still the same thing as another QB going out there and playing for me. So, really cool but treating it like another game where another QB is across from me, and trying to help my team win.”

Caleb Williams was a five-star recruit in the Class of 2021, who originally went to Oklahoma. When Lincoln Riley took the USC job, he followed him to Los Angeles. Dorian Thompson-Robinson, meanwhile, was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2018 who has spent his entire career at UCLA.

Caleb Williams on treating UCLA like any other opponent

It can be a little bit of a cliche, but it’s important to treat a rival like any other opponent. Otherwise, your mentality might not be in the right place for the game. So, that’s exactly what Caleb Williams and USC are trying to do with UCLA.

“Treating it like another game, just like any other game we have been in,” Caleb Williams said. “I’ve been in other big rivalry games so far in my career so, treating it like another game.”
