Caleb Williams is on the cusp of making his Trojan debut with USC. After the freshman year he had at Oklahoma, he could potentially become the next great Trojan QB out in LA. Lincoln Riley got to watch is firsthand from Norman last season and thinks that’s certainly in Williams’ cards.

Riley spoke on Williams’ continued development during an appearance on ‘Trojan Live’. He says his star QB hasn’t let the hype get to him when it comes to his work or his continued education in the game.

“Caleb is a very coachable kid. He wants to get better. He knows that his ceiling is still well out there and it’s something that he’s very aware of,” said Riley. “Some guys play well or have what’s perceived as a lot of success and then all of a sudden they don’t want to be coached quite as much. I’ve never had any indication of that from him, which is important.”

Williams started seven games for the Sooners last season. Even with all the explosive play, his experience is still lacking in some departments as a college QB. This season in the Pac-12 could do plenty to change that.

Even with Williams under center, he’s not the only talented quarterback on the Trojan’s roster. Six other names make up the USC QB room to compete alongside Williams. Riley thinks that has been a real help to all the QBs to have such a strong room to work alongside.

“I think the room was good for him. I think Miller (Moss) came in, learned it quick, really competed and was playing at a very high level throughout camp. That’s always a great thing when you’ve got competition and guys pushing each other,” Riley said. “It’s been a healthy room. I’m excited about the room. I’m excited about some of the depth that we’ve developed with all the obvious turnover that happened. We’ve got several guys in there that we feel good about and we’re ready to play them.”

In the end, Caleb Williams will be the barometer for Lincoln Riley’s inaugural team at USC. He will be the catalyst that will determine how great the Trojans can be. If it’s anything like the circus he put on in the Big 12 last season, a great show is about to be under the bright lights of LA Memorial Coliseum.
