Trojans' quarterback Miller Moss on staying at USC

Life comes at you fast in college football. One moment, Miller Moss was part of a quarterback room with Caleb Williams and Malachi Nelson. Now, he’s leading it.

Nevertheless, Moss is elated for the chance to step up and lead the USC Trojans into battle as their starting quarterback against the Louisville Cardinals in the DIRECTV Holiday Bowl.

Speaking with the media, Moss explained some of the key differences in his preparation being the starting quarterback, versus what it was like as the No. 2.

“It’s obviously different,” Moss stated. “I think the only real difference is that I have more dialogue and say with Coach Riley over the game-plan. But aside from that, I attack my preparation the same way.

“Because in that role as No. 2 quarterback, you always have to be prepared. So I’ll prepare the same way. I’ll lead the same way. I’m just excited again for this opportunity.”

However, Moss doesn’t feel like an imposter as the Trojans’ starter. The quarterback added that he’s beginning to feel more like himself than he has in awhile, and that’s a positive development for USC.

“I think if anything I’ve felt more like myself than I’ve ever have,” Moss elaborated. “I don’t think it’s like a concerted effort. I feel comfortable enough in that position. I feel like the locker room responds well to that.

“Hopefully they do, or else we’ve got bigger problems. But it’s been a fun opportunity. I look forward to continuing to be in that role.”

Regardless of how he’s received it, it’s an opportunity Moss has been working for his entire life. The USC signal caller couldn’t be more ready to get going and face the Cardinals.

“It’s awesome,” Moss added. “I worked my whole life for this. … I’m excited to step in this role and I’m very confident in our team. … I think I just try to treat it like any other game.

“Obviously excited about the opportunity, but not gonna make it more than what it is. We have a game to prepare for and we’re going to do everything we can to win.”

During his three years at USC, Moss has completed 72.9% of his passes for 542 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. This will be his biggest stage by far since arriving in Los Angeles.

We’ll see if he’s able to lead the Trojans to victory, and turn some heads in the process. Miller Moss has a gigantic opportunity at his feet, and it’s one he doesn’t want to squander.
