George Whitfield Jr. believes that USC‘s Caleb Williams compares to other generational talents like Aaron Rodgers and Kendrick Lamar. Whitfield, who helped train and develop quarterbacks such as Auburn‘s Cam Newton, claimed that the NFL star and rap icon are two people that highlight Williams’ ability and swagger.

Whitfield provided the comparison on College Football Live, when asked what intrigues him the most about Williams as he begins his first year with USC after following coach Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma.

“His generational talent combined with his confidence and his swag,” answered Whitfield. “If I was gonna wrap this for you guys, imagine Kendrick Lamar and Aaron Rodgers both enter a phone booth — it’s Caleb Williams who walks out the other side. I’ve been around him in high school, I’ve been around him at elite eleven a couple weeks ago. Every time he picks up the football you’re like, ‘I didn’t know a football could do that. I didn’t know a person could do that with a football.'”

It’s not often that the reigning back-to-back and four-time NFL MVP gets compared to the legendary rapper from Compton, but Williams’ ceiling appears to invite the comparison. Whitfield continued with his impressions of the star young quarterback by highlighting two things to watch for as he steps into the spotlight as a Trojan.

“The interesting part to his transformation though in talking to him is two things. One, he is now leading from the front. It’s a lot of fun when you’re in the bullpen and you’re getting a chance to hear the crowd and everybody cheer and anticipate you coming in. And it’s something to pick up the ball in the Texas game and then take it over. But he didn’t have a chance to lead from the front because he wasn’t the starter last year. He came in mid-way, took it over [and] ran it. Now he’s gotta gel all these free agents that USC has acquired and take off with those guys.

“Secondarily, can he Mac Jones the ball down field? He’s a home run hitter. I’m a big play guy, but can you methodically 12, 15 plays do the boring? Drive them down the field, clock possession, check downs — do you have that in your arsenal? That’ll be something he’ll have to kinda build and add with that home run prowess. But this is the biggest monster in college football.”

Williams didn’t start the year as the starter at Oklahoma last season, but he came in and dazzled quickly. He finished his freshman season with 1,912 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and just four interceptions — all in just seven starts with the Sooners.
