Bronny James suffered a serious scare this offseason, when he was working out with the USC Trojans and getting ready for the 2023-2024 college basketball season with his new team. The son of LeBron James suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed during a practice with the Trojans on Monday, July 24th.

On Thursday, USC head basketball coach Andy Enfield revealed that he’s hopeful that James will return to the court for the Trojans at some point this year.

“Bronny was playing extremely well before the issue. Our top concern is his health. We’re hopeful that he will be on the court at some point this season,” Enfield told Jeff Goodman on Thursday.

That’s great news for James and great news for Trojan fans, as he’s expected to make a big impact on the hardwood this season. It’s currently not known when he’ll begin resuming basketball workouts.

LeBron James was thankful for all of the support

LeBron James recently wrote a message thanking everyone for the outpouring of support for Bronny.

“I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers,” LeBron wrote on Twitter. “We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!”

In a statement from his consulting cardiologist, Dr. Merije Chukumerije, James was described as being conscious and stable by the time he arrived at the hospital. His care team is hopeful he will be back sooner, rather than later.

“Thanks to the swift and effective response by the USC athletics’ medical staff, Bronny James was successfully treated for a sudden cardiac arrest,” the statement read. “He arrived at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center fully conscious, neurologically intact and stable. Mr. James was cared for promptly by highly-trained staff and has been discharged home, where he is resting. Although his workup will be ongoing, we are hopeful for his continued progress and are encouraged by his response, resilience, and his family and community support.”

Bronny James was a four-star recruit out of Sierra Canyon (CA) and came in as the No. 25 overall prospect in the nation from the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 was the only service to rank James as a five-star.

He arrived on USC’s campus in June as the Trojans got ready for summer workouts, and the team announced he’ll wear No. 6.
