USC QB Caleb Williams on finishing the regular season, upcoming bowl game decision

Saturday marks a big day for USC quarterback Caleb Williams, and just because it will be the star quarterback’s 22nd birthday.

It’s the last game of the regular season for the Trojans, as they’ll face in-town rival UCLA in what could very well be the last time anyone ever sees Williams in a USC uniform.

Williams has not yet decided if he will participate in the team’s bowl game after the regular season concludes or if this will be his final season at USC, but a strong majority of the football community believes he will declare for the upcoming NFL Draft and likely be the No. 1 overall pick. Tabbed by some as the most can’t-miss prospect since Trevor Lawrence, Andrew Luck.

With Williams’ collegiate career potentially on the horizon, he was asked following Wednesday’s practice this week how he wants to be remembered by the USC fan base.

“I honestly haven’t thought of anything like that,” Williams honestly admitted. “I’d say a player that went out there and gave his all every play, every chance he got. I’d say a player that cared for his teammates. I’d say a player that wanted to go out there and win every single game that we had.”

Williams will likely be remembered for all of those things and more if this is in fact his final season with the Trojans, as he and head coach Lincoln Riley became a part of the program in 2022 and immediately made a strong impact.

After becoming the starting quarterback midway through his true freshman season at Oklahoma and impressing, Williams followed Riley to USC through the transfer portal and the rest is history. Last season in his first year with USC he broke the program’s single-season record for total offense with 4,919 total yards and 52 total touchdowns through the air and ground, taking home the 2022 Heisman Trophy along with numerous other player of the year awards.

The Trojans are 18-7 with Williams under center as their starter, leading the team to a Pac-12 Championship and bowl appearance last season in back-to-back years riddled with defensive struggles. And although this season isn’t going exactly as he planned, throughout his career he strived to be regarded as one of the program’s best of all time.

“So I’d say those, and obviously as a player you want to go down and try to be one of the best and greatest players ever,” Williams concluded.

USC and UCLA kick off this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET in a game airing on ABC.
