The USC Trojans‘ new star wide receiver, Jordan Addison, recently sat down with the media and talked about his experience thus far in the program. However, one of the questions was not about his new home but rather his old one in Pittsburgh.

After announcing his decision to transfer you to USC, stories and rumors began to circulate about what was the actual reason Addison transferred. Some courtesy of his former coaching staff. But how much thought has the former Panther given these rumors? More importantly, has Addison gone back and discussed his transfer reasons with his former head coach Pat Narduzzi?

“Oh no, I didn’t do any of that. Like I said (before), I know where my focus is and what I’m trying to do for my life and my family,” said Addison. “So I didn’t think I really needed to go back and talk to him. Whatever they had to say, they can say. I appreciate them for giving me the opportunity to even play at that prestigious institution, but it’s all good now.

And for anybody anticipating the Trojans’ new star receiver to be remorseful about his exit from Pittsburgh, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath on that:

“I mean, they say it’s a business. So sometimes you gotta make decisions for you what’s best for you.

As Addison pointed out, the world of college football it’s a business. And in the past, players had little control over the role they played within it. But now, thanks to NIL and the transfer portal, college athletes have more control over their future than at any other time in collegiate sports history. Addison knows that and did what he believes is best for him and his family.

Addison reveals frustrations with pay-for-play rumors surrounding USC recruitment

In 2021, Addison was a consensus All-American and won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s top receiver. Then, in May, Addison entered the transfer portal. Immediately, there were rumors that Addison was going to USC on a pay-for-play deal.

There wasn’t ever any proof that Jordan Addison was going to USC on a pay-for-play deal. That isn’t to say he doesn’t have any NIL deals, he does. Rather, there was never any proof that he was induced to go to USC through NIL or any other pay-for-play scheme.

Still, a stigma followed Jordan Addison, especially when he did choose USC in the end. Whether it was true or not, the rumors have stuck to his reputation. Now, Addison has revealed his frustrations with those rumors.

“It was definitely frustrating, but I wasn’t too concerned with it because the truth always comes to the light,” Jordan Addison said. “So, I know what my focus is and my intent, so all of that is just outside noise.”

“Social media,” Addison explained where he first heard the rumors. “You know, social media is everywhere. You can pick your phone up and it’s right there in your face.”

“Just some BS. I mean, like I said, the truth is always gonna come to light. So, I just made sure I’m just gonna keep working and make sure I’m ready for the season,” Jordan Addison concluded.
