Jonathan Bax's strong senior season continues vs. top competition

Sam Spiegelman•National Recruiting Analyst

Hybrid LB Jonathan Bax had another stellar outing in a tough battle with LSU OT commit Tyree Adams in New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr’s district opener against St. Augustine. Bax is electric off the ball and has outstanding hands and bend to give opposing tackles fits. Bax had another action-filled night slowing down the run game and sealing off the edge, while also generating consistent pressure off the edge. His versatility is catching attention around the state.

Jonathan Bax is a force vs. Warren Easton

Sam Spiegelman•National Recruiting Analyst

Jonathan Bax continues to show out during the first month of his senior season. Bax, a top performer at various live evaluations this offseason, was masterful flying off the edge for Karr. Playing with his hand in the dirt and a stand-up linebacker, Bax has special first-step quickness and is wasting little time getting to the quarterback this fall. He picked up two sacks, three TFL and had a few more hits and pressures along the way, and was also dropping back in coverage. The well-rounded skill-set reminds me of Baltimore Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen.

Jonathan Bax comes up with several plays off the edge in fall scrimmage vs. East St. John

Sam Spiegelman•National Recruiting Analyst

Jonathan Bax was absolutely prolific firing off the ball in the fall scrimmage against Reserve (La.) East St. John. Bax lined up largely with his hand in the dirt and couldn't be denied defending against outside runs. He can fly down the line and takes direct paths to the ball. Bax was even more formidable getting after the quarterback. He flies off the line and uses his hands extremely well and bends even better. Bax doesn't take many plays off and it shows with constant hits on the quarterback or hands on the ball, disrupting plays and applying pressure at a high rate even when they don't result in sacks. Bax has a high floor and is equipped with a strong range of pass-rush moves. He's someone I'm betting on to take a massive leap this season.

Jonathan Bax shows versatility at LSU elite camp

Charles Power•

Southern Miss commit Jonathan Bax worked at both linebacker and EDGE on Thursday. The 6-foot-1.5, 225-pounder looked like a natural fit at linebacker, in our opinion. He has an ideal build with length and a developed lower body. Bax is primarily used as a pass rusher at New Orleans Edna Karr and brings added versatility to the table.

Jonathan Bax senior spring game

Sam Spiegelman•National Recruiting Analyst

Jonathan Bax was a force up for New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr in the spring game at Destrehan. He's up 15 to 20 lbs and provided some pressure off the edge as a stand-up rusher that could also cover and jolt down the sideline in a hurry. Bax also rushed with his hand in the dirt and generated excellent push and came close on quite a few sacks in this setting. Bax is a candidate for a breakout senior season.
