Reminds Us Of

Carl Lawson
Carl Lawson
EDGE / 6-2 / 257
AuburnAuburn · HS Class of 2013
Cincinnati2017 Draft · Rnd 4 · Pick 116

Like Carl Lawson, Rueben Bain is a shorter, highly prolific pass rusher with burst and an innate ability to make plays behind the line of scrimmage. Both played with polish and outstanding effort as high school players. Lawson was a bit more physically developed at the same stage.

Rueben Bain Scouting Summary
Cody Bellaire
07/18/22

Energizer bunny along the defensive line who plays with his hair on fire every snap which helped lead Miami Central (FL) to a state championship as a junior. Totaled 53 tackles, a ridiculous 31 tackles for loss and 19.5 sacks during his junior season. One of, if not the highest of motors of any defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle. Works to make plays at all levels of the field. Lives in the backfield due to his get off and burst. Plays with natural leverage due to height. Utilizes his length in order to keep chest clean at point of attack. Stacks and sheds with ease regardless of mass. Needs to fill out throughout his frame in order to thrive at the next level. Has the twitch, change of direction and motor in order to excel in college. Ran an electronically-timed sub-4.50 shuttle and jumped a 25-inch vertical at 250 pounds during the spring of his sophomore year heading into his junior campaign. Will continue to develop physically and get stronger in order to shine and become an NFL draft selection.

Personal Life

The accolades came in droves for Rueben Bain during his first season with Miami – Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Rookie of the Year, freshman All-American and third team All-ACC honors. But Miami coach Mario Cristobal believes that success is just the beginning for Bain. "He is going to end up being one of the best players to go to the University of Miami," Cristobal said. " He is as talented, as driven and as tough as it gets. His best football is ahead of him.” Bain, a former standout at Miami Central, tied with linebacker Francisco Mauigoa for the team lead last season with 7.5 sacks in 2023, which was the second most in college football among freshman defensive linemen. Bain also forced three fumbles, had four quarterback hurries and one pass breakup in 2023. “His ceiling is off the roof,” Mauigoa said. “He’s an amazing individual off the field, and he’s a phenomenal football player. The things that he did as a freshman, that was just the beginning."
