Travis Hunter evaluation at Under Armour All-America Game

Charles Power

+ He’s ranked as an athlete, but Jackson State signee Travis Hunter (No. 2) primarily worked as a corner at Under Armour. Hunter took things relatively easy over the course of the week and is still nursing an ankle injury from his senior season. Hunter views himself as a cornerback first and certainly has the ability to be a great player there. With that said, I’ve been of the belief his highest upside is at receiver. What we saw at Under Armour confirmed that thought. Hunter has elite and perhaps transcendent ball skills. Along with A.J. Green, Hunter’s ball skills are the best I’ve seen from a high school prospect. That ability is maximized at receiver while any perceived questions about him as a prospect (slight build, lack of verified long speed) are minimized relative to corner. Make no mistake, Hunter was among the better corners at Under Armour, but he was not flawless. TCU signee Jordan Hudson got behind him twice during the game and he got caught flat-footed a few times in practice.

Travis Hunter ends career with a state title

Charles Power

Travis Hunter ended his illustrious high school career with a state championship, leading his Collins Hill team to a 24-8 win over Milton in Georgia's 7A state championship. Hunter took over the game in the third quarter with a few long catches, a short touchdown and a forced fumble. He finished the game with 10 catches for 153 yards and touchdown in addition to several tackles and the forced fumble. Hunter is as good of a high school player that we've seen in a few years and will go down as an all-time great prep star in the state of Georgia.

Travis Hunter scores two TD's and grabs a pick in playoff game

Charles Power

Travis Hunter is working his way back into the mix in the playoffs after missing a good chunk of his senior season with a high ankle injury. The No. 1 prospect in the On3 Consensus had a dominant third quarter in what turned out to be a blowout win over Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes. Hunter got things going by coming down a long touchdown catch. He followed that up on the next drive with one of his patented contested catches on the sideline. A few plays later, Missouri quarterback commit Sam Horn found Hunter open in the end zone on a scramble drill. Hunter capped things off on the next drive, coming down with an interception. Hunter finished the game with 113 yards and two touchdowns on nine catches, in addition to the interception.

Travis Hunter sustains ankle injury

Charles Power

Travis Hunter sustained an ankle injury in Collins Hill's win over Peachtree Ridge. The five-star prospect left the game in an ambulance and tweeted a picture of his leg in a cast, asking for prayers. Afterwards, his head coach Lenny Gregory informed media outlets that the prognosis on the injury was good and that Hunter is expected to return to play this season.

Travis Hunter dominates in senior debut

Charles Power

Travis Hunter had a huge senior debut in a 36-10 win over Brookwood in Mercedes Benz Stadium on Saturday. Hunter finished with 13 receptions for 232 yards, two touchdowns, one passing touchdown and one interception on defense. He demolished single coverage on the few occasions he was left one-on-one with a corner. The stamina and competitiveness are two additional separating traits that show up in live games. Hunter never leaves the field. On one play he took a big shot from a defender he didn’t see. Most players would’ve come to the sidelines after that collision. Hunter stayed on the field and was a lead blocker on a long touchdown run by Missouri quarterback-commit Sam Horn just one play later.

Travis Hunter debuts at No. 2 in initial On300

Charles Power

Hunter is among the more unique prospects we’ve seen in several years. He legitimately has the skills to be the nation’s top wide receiver or corner. Hunter was arguably the top high school player in the nation last fall at Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill. He was unguardable in Georgia’s largest classification, catching 137 passes for 1,746 and 24 scores. On defense, he tallied 51 tackles and eight interceptions. He had seven interceptions as a sophomore. The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder is equally as dominant on the 7-on-7 circuit, where he might go down as one of the best players in the last decade. The condensed setting of 7-on-7 plays perfectly into his ballhawk tendencies. Acrobatic contested catches are the norm for Hunter, regardless of the setting. We’ve seen him consistently get the better of some top prospects on both sides of the ball.

Travis Hunter makes crazy catch in state championship

Charles Power

Collins Hill fell to Grayson in the state title game, but not for the efforts of 2022 prospect Travis Hunter. The five-star prospect had 11 catches for 107 yards and one touchdown. He made an exceptional one-handed grab in the second half. Hunter was fully extended mid-air and somehow came down with the football. He would later score on a toe-tapping touchdown in the back of the end zone that was incorrectly ruled out of bounds.

Travis Hunter gets the best of touted corner

Charles Power

Travis Hunter faced a big test on Friday, going up against top 100 Ohio State cornerback commit Jordan Hancock and North Gwinnett. The game was Hancock's first since returning to the team after previously opting out of the season due to COVID-19. Hunter certainly got the best of the matchup, finishing with five catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a nine yard score and had an interception on defense. Hunter beat Hancock vertically early on with a double move and tracked the ball over his outside shoulder. He also got loose on a crossing route, breaking a tackle attempt by Hancock before racing in for a long touchdown.
