Sophomore high school football quarterbacks around the country are stepping behind center on varsity and proving they can easily hold their own with the best teams in the country. We spotlight 10 of the best 2028 signal callers so far this 2025 season below:

Jayden Wade – IMG Academy (Fla.)

Managing one of the top high school football teams in the country may always seem to those on the outside looking in as the ideal gig for any quarterback, but Wade has been more than exceptional for the Ascenders this fall.

The four-star signal caller has produced some impressive outings this season, including a 11-for-11, 350-yard, four touchdown effort in a 49-14 rout of Phenix City Central (Ala.).

On the season, Wade has completed 49 of 75 passes for 943 yards, 14 touchdowns and just one mere interception. The sophomore has also added 168 yards and three scores on the ground for undefeated IMG Academy.

Lukas Prock – Hun School (N.J.)

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound three-star quarterback has proven himself beyond just putting up big numbers through the air, but also being very efficient in the process of doing so for the Raiders.

Prock has completed nearly 74 percent of his passes this season for 2,454 yards, 27 touchdowns and only one pick. The sophomore’s biggest output of the season through six games was in a 64-0 win over Hewlett Sports Academy, which the passer finished 22 of 27 passes for 651 yards and eight touchdowns. Not too shabby and Prock’s statistics match up against the best high school quarterbacks in the country.

Jax Sculley – Hamilton (Ariz.)

After throwing just 18 passes a year ago, Sculley has fully settled in and then some to being a full-time varsity quarterback for one of Arizona’s top high school football programs.

Sculley has taken care of the football about as well as any of his counterparts, only throwing four interceptions on 150 pass attempts. The quarterback this season has completed 107 of 150 (71 percent) passes for 1,939 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Against Brophy Collegiate Prep, Sculley was terrific, completing 21 of 30 passes for 327 yards, four touchdowns in a 70-33 rout. Southern Miss is the lone school thus far to offer Sculley, but offers should come soon for one of Arizona’s top passers, regardless of class.

Neimann Lawrence – Miami Northwestern (Fla.)

Heavily regarded as one of the top quarterbacks of the 2028 class, Lawrence started the season sharing snaps behind center but now runs the Northwestern offense all on his lonesome.

The four-star signal caller has flourished in his first season at Northwestern, with Lawrence completing 65 of 92 passes for 882 yards, 13 touchdowns and zero interceptions so far. Taking care of the football has been the most impressive for Lawrence, who last year at Ransom Everglades completed 162 of 252 passes for 2,777 yards, 31 scores and eight picks.

Look for Lawrence to lead Northwestern back to Florida’s Class 3A state championship game this December at Pitbull Stadium.

Donald Tabron II – Cass Technical (Mich.)

Over in the Great Lakes region, there’s plenty of quarterbacks playing at a high level right now, but very few at that of Tabron II this season.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pound passer is ranked No. 3 by the Rivals Industry Rankings when it comes to quarterbacks out of the 2028 class and there’s plenty of reasons pertaining to his play on the field.

Statistics through the first four games of the season, Tabron has completed 41 of 60 passes for 815 yards and eight touchdowns. Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State are all hot on Tabron’s trail early in his recruitment.

Camren Phillips – Life Oak Cliff (TX)

Though the 6-foot, 175-pound quarterback doesn’t have the bevy of offers and accolades just yet, Phillips’ production on the field can’t be ignored thus far down in the Lone Star State.

Phillips is already on pace to surpass his production from a year ago, with the quarterback having completed 98 of 146 passes for 1,771 yards, 24 touchdowns and just four picks.

Last season as a freshman was a huge year for Phillips, who broke onto the varsity scene throwing for 3,007 yards and 32 scores through 10 games played.

Kingston Preyear – Benjamin Russell (Ala.)

No way we could go all through this list without mentioning a quarterback from the Yellowhammer State that has been showing out and Preyear has been special every time he takes the field for Benjamin Russell.

The No. 1 ranked player out of Alabama for 2028, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, has completed 82 of 140 passes for 1,271 yards, 18 touchdowns and only one interception. Preyear has been effective running the ball as well for the Wildcats, rushing for 308 yards and two touchdowns.

Preyear’s most impressive performance this season was in a 35-34 win over Spain Park where the dual-threat totaled over 300 yards of offense and four total scores.

Brady Quinn – Naples Lely (Fla.)

The name always throws folks off thinking there’s a relation with former NFL quarterback Brady Quinn, but the only thing in common is both play the same position in football.

The younger Quinn transferred to Naples Lely during the off-season from Naples First Baptist Academy and has shined in his first season as a Trojan. Quinn has completed 89 of 149 passes for 1,491 yards and 19 touchdowns.

There’s plenty of schools eyeing Quinn right now as he’s continued to improve as a sophomore for one of Florida’s top Class 3A teams.

Jaxon Schad – Weiss (TX)

A second signal caller from the Lone Star State makes the list of talented sophomore passers that have lit up secondaries on Friday nights.

Schad so far has the attention of Texas colleges, with the quarterback holding offers so far from Houston, North Texas, SMU, Texas Tech and UTSA. With the kind of numbers Schad is putting up, it’s hard to ignore the production he’s putting out on a weekly basis.

The 5-foot-11, 173-pound passer has completed 66 percent of his passes for 1,820 yards and 26 touchdowns this fall.

Christopher Vargas – St. John’s Preparatory School (Mass.)

Last and certainly not least on our list is Vargas, who has been the standout out of the New England region when it comes to sophomore quarterbacks.

Turning on the tape on the right-handed passer, Vargas shows the ability to push the ball downfield, but also remain on platform on intermediate and second level throws.

Vargas shined in St. John’s Preparatory’s 47-21 victory over Central Catholic a couple weeks ago when the quarterback completed 18 of 24 passes for 287 yards and four touchdowns.
