2-time North Carolina high school state champion football coach out after four seasons
Just one year removed from leading West Charlotte (N.C.) to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) Class 3A state championship, head coach Sam Greiner is out as the Lions’ head coach.
According to a report by the Charlotte Post, West Charlotte principal Paula Cook has informed the school’s families that Greiner was no longer the lead man for the Lions via an email that was sent out. Greiner led the program for four seasons and in the last two campaigns has compiled an overall record of 23-5.
“Hello, West Charlotte High School Football Families:
I want to share with you that Coach Greiner will no longer serve as the head football coach at West Charlotte High School. We appreciate his service to our student-athletes and to the WCHS community over the years.
As we begin the search for our next head football coach, we remain committed to finding a leader who will uphold the values of West Charlotte High School and provide an exceptional experience for our student-athletes. We are dedicated to selecting a coach who will help our students thrive on and off the field.
Thank you for your continued support of West Charlotte High School. We wish you the very best this holiday season.
Principal Paula Cook”
The Lions were coming off another strong season on the field for Greiner as the team finished with a 10-3 record, losing in the third round of the Class 8A playoffs, 24-0 to William Amos Hough.
