5-star forward Tyran Stokes has officially withdrawn from Notre Dame (Calif.)

Tyran Stokes, the No. 1-ranked basketball player in the 2026 class, has officially withdrawn from Notre Dame (Calif.), according to High School On SI’s Tarek Fattal on Wednesday afternoon. Per Fattel’s post, the school put out an official release confirming that Stokes is no longer at the school.
“Notre Dame High School acknowledges Tyran Stokes’ decision to withdraw and explore new opportunities. We appreciate the contributions he made to our basketball program and community during his time here. We wish Tyran all the best as he pursues his future,” Notre Dame athletic director Alec Moses said in a emailed statement.
Stokes is the No. 1-ranked player in the 2026 Rivals Industry Ranking and also made his high school football debut this past fall for Notre Dame as well.
Last season, Stokes led Notre Dame to the Southern Section Open Division and state Open Division semifinal, averaging 21 points, 9.3 rebounds, nearly 4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

Stokes made his appearance on the gridiron this past season for the Knights and in his debut hauled in two passes for 57 yards and scored a touchdown. Notre Dame in football features a couple Division I prospects, including quarterback Wyatt Brown (West Virginia commit) and wide receiver Luc Weaver (USC commit).
The Knights finished 28-8 in boys basketball last season with Stokes, but now without arguably the top player in the nation, are sure to take a step back this California boys basketball season. Notre Dame still has a couple future Division I hoopers on their roster, including junior four-star shooting guard NaVorro Bowman Jr. and senior small forward Zach White (San Diego commit).
