The first Alabama high school football state championship game out this week takes place tonight when top-ranked Thompson squares off against No. 7 ranked Opelika for the AHSAA Class 7A state title. Checkout the key players on both sides to watch in this matchup of top five Alabama high school football teams tonight.

Warriors to Watch

Alabama high school football’s No. 1 ranked team, Thompson, heads over to Birmingham to attempt and win their 7th state championship in program history against a feisty Opelika squad looking to pull off a major upset. Thompson (10-4) defeated Phenix City Central, 35-34, in the Class 7A state semis and now as the heavy favorites, look to finish off the 2025 season with a trophy in hand.

QB Trent Seaborn: The Alabama commitment four-star quarterback anchors the Warriors’ offense as Seaborn has completed 245 of 339 passes for 3,376 yards and 32 touchdowns.

S Damonte Tabb: Tabb is going to make it very difficult for Opelika to want to throw over the top of the Thompson defense as the defensive back end for the Warriors picked off a team-high nine passes this season.

DL Cam Pritchett: Pritchett, a Oregon commit, anchors the Thompson front seven as one of the best defensive lineman in the state. So far this season, Pritchett has tallied 87 tackles, 14 going for a loss and three sacks.

WR Darion Moseley: The junior wide receiver has been one of the go-to-targets for Seaborn this 2025 season as the wide receiver has hauled 64 passes for 1,061 yards and seven touchdowns.

Bulldogs to Watch

Opelika (10-3) enters tonight’s contest against Thompson looking to pull off one of the bigger upsets when it pertains to a Alabama high school football state championship game. As the Bulldogs are coming off a thrilling 31-28 victory over Auburn in the state semifinals, they will need all of their stars to stand out to have a chance in tonight’s Class 7A state title game.

RB CJ Johnson: If Opelika is going to win, they’ll need their ground game to come alive tonight via Johnson, who has rushed for a team-high 944 yards on 150 touches and found the endzone nine times.

WR Dre Vann: Vann, a senior wide receiver, is the top pass catcher for Opelika’s offense as the top pass catcher has hauled in 34 passes for 627 yards and scored five touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

CB Braiden Howard: The junior cornerback is the leader of the Opelika secondary as the talented defensive back has notched 50 total tackles and intercepted five passes.

QB Whit Cooper: The sophomore quarterback will lead a Bulldogs’ offense that’s averaging 27.6 points per game. Cooper this season has thrown for 903 yards and eight touchdowns this fall.
