We’re hitting the homestretch of the 2025 Alabama high school football regular season. Many programs have just two matchups to go until the postseason and the rankings continue to update.

Despite remaining undefeated, Clay-Chalkville has fallen back to No. 2 in the state, according to the Massey Ratings. Thompson picked up another ranked win and leapfrogged the team that beat it just a couple of weeks ago.

Tensions are rising across the state and five more ranked matchups are coming down the pike this week. Below are the top 25 teams in Alabama after week eight, according to the Massey Ratings.

1. Thompson Warriors (6-2)

It was business as usual for Thompson last time out in a 56-10 drubbing of No. 14 Hillcrest. The Warriors are now 4-1 in games against top-25 teams in the state, with the lone defeat coming against Clay-Chalkville. Thompson quarterback Trent Seaborn threw for three touchdowns while Chauncy Alo led the defense with 10 total tackles in the latest win. Two more big games will round out the regular season for the Warriors. They head to No. 8 Hoover this week, then close things out at No. 22 Prattville the following Friday.

2. Clay-Chalkville Cougars (8-0)

Clay-Chalkville remained undefeated with a 56-6 win at Huffman last week. The Cougars continue to march through their schedule and have the best win of any team in the state to this point. Despite that, they fell from No. 1 to No. 2, though that matters little to the program in Pinson. Senior Joshua Woods rushed for three scores on just seven carries in the Huffman victory. This Friday, they host Oxford, a top-40 team in the state.

3. Central Red Devils (7-1)

The Central offense continues to bulldoze opponents and is now averaging over 46 points per game following a 58-35 win over No. 12 Carver. Junior running back Jayshaun Woodhouse rushed for 238 yards and three scores while junior QB Bobby Coleman hurled for three touchdowns of his own. No. 13 Opelika this week and one-win JAG is all that separates the Red Devils from a nine-win regular season. Business as usual for the powerhouse in Phenix City.

4. Saraland Spartans (7-0)

Saraland is coming off a bye week and now gears up for a three-game stretch that begins with a home bout against winless Murphy this Thursday. The Spartans, led by senior Duke receiver commit DeShawn Spencer, are favorites to take home another state title and will finish the season with a matchup against No. 12 Carver on Oct. 30.

5. Hewitt-Trussville Huskies (6-2)

Hewitt-Trussville is down two spots to No. 5 after suffering its second loss in a row. The Huskies allowed 20-plus points for the first time all year as No. 22 Prattville found the upset at home, taking down the state title contender, 24-21. Multiple turnovers plagued the Huskies, who were coming off a defeat to No. 1 Thompson the week prior. Senior linebacker De’Narrius Crawford had a game-high 17 total tackles in the loss on Friday. Hewitt-Trussville will look to grab some momentum back before postseason play with a game at Oak Mountain this week.

6. Vestavia Hills Rebels (5-2)

The Rebels notched their second win in a row last week, blanking Oak Mountain 41-0. Vestavia Hills‘ pair of losses have come to top-five teams in the state in Thompson and Hewitt-Trussville. It does have three ranked victories under the belt and now gets a trip to winless Tuscaloosa County this week. The path to an eight-win regular season is certainly in the cards for the Rebels.

7. Auburn Tigers (6-2)

One week after taking a 36-0 beating from No. 3 Central, Auburn dealt a shutout loss of its own to Smiths Station. The Tigers won 38-0 behind a 300-yard, three-touchdown performance from junior quarterback Cason Myers. Senior Antonio Welch caught all three of those TDs from Myers. Auburn is 3-2 in ranked matchups this season and will look for a fourth ranked victory this week as it hosts No. 12 Carver on Friday night.

8. Hoover Buccaneers (5-3)

It took four tries, but Hoover finally has a win at home this season. It trounced Tuscaloosa County 51-7 behind three rushing and receiving touchdowns a piece. The Buccaneers now have one final matchup at the Hoover Met as No. 1 Thompson comes to town this week. Can Jonah Winston and Co. pull off what would be a monumental upset? The Massey Ratings predict a 41-14 win for the Warriors.

9. Mary G Montgomery Vikings (8-0)

In its final game away from home this regular season, Mary G Montgomery went to Fairhope, a top-40 team in the state, and pulled out a 28-21 victory. The Vikings had over 200 rushing yards, 119 of which came from junior Kamron Smith. He also had 75 receiving yards and a score through the air. MGM is favored in each of its final two regular season matchups, the first of which comes this Friday vs. Baker.

10. Williamson Lions (7-0)

The dynamic Williamson offense continues to dominate. Two weeks after hanging 100 points on Murphy, the Lions defeated UMS-Wright 40-10 to remain perfect at 7-0. The Lions are now averaging over 57 points per game this season. The 10 points allowed last week was the most their defense has given up this fall, too. Williamson has been multiple rungs above its competition thus far, but a real test comes this week as it takes on No. 18 Vigor.
