Alabama High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Oct. 28

The Alabama high school football playoffs will begin on Nov. 7. Many teams have now concluded their regular seasons, while others will wrap up in the coming days.
Eyes are now on the final push to a state title across the state’s seven classifications. The Massey Ratings have once again updated, too.
Vestavia Hills picked up a top-10 win and has now moved into the top five. The top three remains unchanged with Clay-Chalkville still at the top. Below are the top 25 teams in Alabama after week 10, according to the Massey Ratings.
1. Clay-Chalkville Cougars (10-0)
The Cougars head into the 6A playoffs as the top team in the state and the No. 34 team in the nation. Clay-Chalkville closed its regular season with a 51-14 win over Pinson Valley. It averaged nearly 48 points per game this year and allowed more than 20 points in a game just once. Led by QB Aaron Frye and four-star wide receiver Corey Barber, the Cougars will be a tough out.
2. Central Red Devils (9-1)
Central went undefeated in-state this season after thumping JAG 62-6 over the weekend. The Red Devils’ lone defeat this year came at the hands of Florida powerhouse IMG Academy. They eclipsed 50 points six times this season, completely overpowering defenses. They own wins over four top-25 programs and will be a favorite to win the 7A crown once again.
3. Thompson Warriors (7-3)
Thompson sat atop the state rankings for much of the season but ran into some bumps down the stretch. After dropping a tight game to Hoover, the Warriors rebounded and closed the regular season with a 29-15 win over No. 15 Prattville. Led by star junior QB and new Alabama commit Trent Seaborn, as well as Oregon defensive lineman pledge Cam Pritchett, Thompson still has the power to push to a 7A state title.
4. Vestavia Hills Rebels (7-2)
The biggest win over the weekend belongs to Vestavia Hills, as it took down No. 8 Hoover in a 39-30 battle. The Rebels have now won four games in a row and have now cleared 40 points six times this fall. They still have a game to go and are massive favorites over Montgomery Catholic Prep this week.
5. Saraland Spartans (9-0)
Saraland will head to the postseason with just nine games under its belt as its matchup against Carver was canceled due to “scheduling adjustments.” There’s been controversy about why the game was canceled, but that’s a moot point as both teams now gear up for the postseason. The Spartans have been dominant all year, allowing two touchdowns or less in all nine games. Saraland will be a favorite in the 6A bracket, too.
6. Hewitt-Trussville Huskies (8-2)
Led by its hard-nosed run game, Hewitt-Trussville is now past its surprising two-game skid earlier this month and will enter the playoffs on a two-game winning streak. It dispatched of Tuscaloosa County 49-7 last time out. The Huskies, also buoyed by a sturdy defense, will look to make some noise in 7A next month.
7. Auburn Tigers (8-2)
Since getting blanked by No. 2 Central at the beginning of the month, Auburn has re-gained its stride and will enter the 7A playoffs on a three-game winning streak. The Tigers went to top-30 Dothan and won 39-26 over the weekend to close out the regular season. Star junior QB Cason Myers and the Auburn offense has impressed the last few weeks and looks to be hitting a stride heading into the postseason.

8. Hoover Buccaneers (6-4)
Hoover’s topsy-turvy regular season came to a close with a 39-30 loss at Vestavia Hills last week. The Buccaneers went 4-3 against top-25 teams in the state and also lost to IMG Academy (Fla.) at the beginning of the season. Jonah Winston and Co. are as battle-tested as they come, have a win over No. 3 Thompson and know what it takes to survive in the deep waters at the top of 7A.
9. Williamson Lions (9-0)
The Lions will also enter the postseason with just nine games under their belt. One of the best in 5A, Williamson has cruised through its schedule, with the highlight being a 12-point win over then-top-25 Vigor two weeks ago. It blanked LeFlore 28-0 last week, and of course, has a 100-0 victory to its name this fall.
10. Opelika Bulldogs (7-3)
Opelika snapped a two-game skid with a big 24-14 win over No. 12 Carver to close the regular season last week. Scoring points consistently has been tougher for the Bulldogs as of late, but they still have an impressive defense that’ll look to carry it far in the 7A playoffs. They went 3-3 against top-25 teams in the Yellowhammer State this regular season.
