Alabama high school football team extends losing streak To 91 games

An Alabama high school football team is on the wrong side of history after finishing the 2024 season with their 91st consecutive defeat. Huntsville’s Columbia Eagles wrapped up their campaign at 0-10 after dropping a 24-14 decision against Hazel Green last Nov. 1.
Midway into the fourth quarter, the Eagles were within striking distance of their first victory in nine years. However, the Trojans scored a touchdown, and Columbia never recovered. The 91-game losing streak is already the longest in high school football history, nine games longer than Glascock County’s streak from 1990 to 1999.
Columbia’s football program started in 2006, finishing its inaugural campaign with a 4-6 record. It has never had a record better than 5-5, which it achieved in the 2007-08 season. After another 0-10 season, the Eagles’ overall record fell to 31-156.
The Eagles’ losing streak started against Johnson on Oct. 23, 2015. The week before, Columbia had a convincing road victory over Ardmore. Unfortunately, after dropping all ten games this year, the Eagles must wait until 2025 to break the streak.

Except for this scoreline against Hazel Green, Columbia hasn’t come close to clinching their first victory in nearly a decade. They scored single-digit points in six games this year, including three shutout losses. Last season, the Eagles went beyond ten points in only two games. In 2024, Columbia’s point differential is -440.
However, there are instances when they didn’t struggle to put points on the board. They scored 40 points on Sep. 25, 2020, against Tanner but still lost by ten points. They came close to defeating Lee four years earlier but fell short 27-20.
Worse yet, Columbia hasn’t seen the end of its losing streak, unlike Diamond Hill’s 77-game losing streak, which ended in 2017. Therefore, reaching the Alabama high school football playoffs remains a distant dream for this team competing in Class 6A Region 7.
