Alabama high school homecoming football game canceled, will not be rescheduled

One of the most anticipated games of the year for two Alabama high school football programs has been canceled and won’t be rescheduled.

Friday night’s tilt between George Washington Carver (3-1) and Mobile Christian (5-1), which was set to be Carver’s homecoming game, will not be played, according to the Birmingham City School District.

No reason was given for the cancellation.

“We regret to inform you that the upcoming Carver High School football game vs. Mobile Christian Academy, initially scheduled for October 3, 2025, has been canceled and will not be rescheduled this season,” read a post on Carver’s Facebook page. “We understand the excitement surrounding this matchup and apologize for any inconvenience the cancellation may cause for our students, families, and supporters. Our top priority is maintaining clear communication with our school and community. The homecoming festivities will be rescheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025, against Wenonah.

It’s the second game this season for Carver that has been canceled with no reschedule date.

In August, Carver’s game against Pleasant Grove was canceled. The school said the cancellation was due to the unavailability of local police for coverage as the reason. The Rams were set to come into this matchup at 3-1 after wins over Jackson-Olin and Hayden in back-to-back weeks. Mobile Christian, the state champions in Class 3A in 2023, were off to their best start since that campaign at 5-1.

Both teams will resume action on October 10.
