Alex Constanza, one of the top high school basketball players in the country, is headed to Ohio for his final season of prep eligibility.

On Wednesday, 247HSHoops’ Sam Kayser reported that Constanza is transferring to SPIRE Academy (Ohio) to play for legendary coach Kevin Boyle. The latter moved from national powerhouse Montverde Academy (Fla.) up to SPIRE this spring, in one of the more shocking announcements around high school basketball in recent memory.

The school, which opened in 2009, was built in the image of Florida’s IMG Academy as an elite international boarding school that aims to be the premier breeding ground for prep athletes. It has over 850,000 square feet of athletic facilities and a massive budget to not only hire coaches like Boyle, but also to recruit top prospects in multiple sports.

Constanza becomes the latest coveted basketball recruit to transfer there, and will team up with 2027 top-10 overall recruit Jaylan Mitchell.

Constanza is the No. 14 overall recruit in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 6 small forward.

Constanza is one of the most sought-after prospects in the country

Heading into the summer before his senior year, he holds offers Miami, Illinois, Syracuse, Arkansas, Oregon and dozens of the other programs. Standing at 6’8, he’s one of the most talented wing players in the country and recently showed that off during the Puma Pro16 Circuit. On3 National Recruiting Analyst Jamie Shaw had this to say about him:

“When it comes to pure talent, few possess for natural abilities that Alex Constanza has. The 6-foot-8 wing has good feel with the ball in his hands. He initiates the offenses for this team and gets the ball where it needs to go on the floor. Constanza plays with good balance, doesn’t get knocked off his lines and is able to decelerate in traffic to create a clean look. The motor is what is inconsistent with his game. There is not much movement when he is not on the ball.

… His size and ability to act as the central hub of an offense is intriguing, even with the inconsistent motor. He moves the ball well and he can finish at each level with a smooth shooting stroke and understanding of angles. He is a top-20 ranked player for On3, and the unique nature of his game shows why.”
