Arizona High School Football: Hamilton bests No. 13 Basha

When you think of the top high school football teams out of the Grand Canyon State, you can’t go without mentioning Hamilton and Basha. On Friday night, the two Arizona powerhouses collided in a matchup between two undefeated teams.

What was surprising to the folks on hand is that it wasn’t all that exactly close between Arizona’s No. 2-3 ranked teams, per the Massey Ratings.

Behind another superb night from sophomore wide receiver Roye Oliver, the Huskies were able to roll to a 28-12 victory over the No. 13 nationally ranked Bears. Hamilton improves to 8-0 on the campaign as they take on Cesar Chavez and Chandler, respectively, to close out the regular season.

Oliver ended up adding three more touchdowns to his now historic season as a sophomore. His second score of the night set a new Arizona Class 6A single season record for touchdowns in a season.

His first one, though, broke the game wide open as the fleet-footed pass catcher hauled in a 90-yard strike from fellow sophomore Jaxson Sculley, who finished the night with three more touchdown passes.

For Basha (7-1), the Bears looked to keep pace with the Huskies and got to within 14-9 in the second quarter when Josh Gaines scored on a 2-yard touchdown run. That would be as close as Basha got as they could only muster up a field goal the rest of the way as they dropped their first game of the season.

The Bears will look to get back on track at home next week when they face off against Mesa.
