Arizona High School Football Top 25 Rankings - Nov. 17

Arizona high school football season saw the first week of the the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) playoffs take place this past Friday, with virtually no change at the very top.

Hamilton for the fourth straight week are the No. 1 team in the Grand Canyon State. Liberty Lions is the state’s No. 2, with Basha coming in at No. 3 and Chandler at No. 4. Who else joins the aforementioned teams in the latest set of Arizona high school football Top 25 rankings?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest Arizona high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Nov. 17.

1. Hamilton Huskies

The Hamilton Huskies (10-0) closed out the regular season with a gritty win over No. 4 Chandler, 55-41, with starting quarterback Jax Sculley going down with an injury and his status was left up in question.

The Huskies start off the Open Division playoffs against No. 6 Mountain View this week.

Hamilton’s title-drought now stands at 12 years after falling to Liberty in last year’s Open Division semifinals, but there’s optimism the streak could end this fall behind a potent offense. Among the standouts on the season for the Huskies has been a number of contributors, including Sculley (2,947 yards, 41 touchdowns), running back Skyler Cole (775 yards, seven touchdowns) and four-star sophomore wide receiver Roye Oliver, who has caught 75 passes for 1,598 yards and 27 scores.

Oliver put himself into the record books a couple weeks ago, becoming the all-time single season leader for touchdowns in Arizona’s Class 6A with 25.

2. Liberty Lions

Liberty (9-1) continues to maintain their No. 2 ranking after they received a bye week to start the Open Division playoffs. The Lions lone loss on the season came against Utah’s Corner Canyon, a 45-14 loss, and have been taking it out on any opponent in their path.

The Lions first test of the Open Division playoffs is against Red Mountain on Friday night.

For seven straight weeks, the Lions have double-digit victories over Brophy College Preparatory, Highland, winless ALA Queen Creek (0-3), Mountain Ridge, Centennial, and now Boulder Creek, respectively.

Liberty will need players like Boise State commit Paz St. John and Minnesota pledge Hudson Dunn to lead the charge for the Lions’ defense if they look to repeat as Arizona’s Open Division state champions this fall.

3. Basha Bears

Basha (9-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season, 28-12, to top-ranked Hamilton when they defeated No. 23 ranked Mesa Jackrabbits, 41-33, and Perry, 52-3. Bears are back in action Friday night after a bye week to take on Williams Field in a Open Division playoff game.

The Bears may have come up short last year in their quest to win a second Open Division crown in three years, but undefeated start says this fall say they’ll be back in the AIA Open Division title game. The Bears opened up the 2025 season off with impressive wins over Brophy College Prep, California powerhouse Orange Lutheran and Williams Field.

Quarterback Broderick Vehrs has led a talented Basha offense which features four-star sophomore running back Noah Roberts, three-star wide receiver Jaden Baldwin and four-star offensive tackle Jake Hildebrand. The team’s defensive unit is led by Mason Lewis and linebacker Eli Cramer-Cronin.

4. Chandler Wolves

The Chandler Wolves (8-2) have looked for real all throughout the Arizona high school football regular season, cruising past opponents on a weekly basis. The Wolves dropped their second game of the season with a 55-41 loss to No. 1 Hamilton a week and a half ago.

Quarterback Will Mencl is one of the best junior quarterbacks in Arizona, and he’ll have a pair of standout targets at receiver in Jai Jones and Kaydon Gray. Veteran safety Hamisi Juma, who committed to Arizona last September, will anchor the team’s defensive secondary.

5. Centennial Coyotes

It hasn’t been exactly like last year’s road to the Class 6A state championship, as Centennial (7-4) saw their regular season end with a loss to Mountain View last week, 22-14.

This team got hot at the right time last year, winning their first state crown since 2018. Despite seeing magic happen in 2024, it hasn’t happened quite yet for the Coyotes as they head into the Class 6A postseason where they will take on No. 22 ranked Mesa this week.
