Arizona High School Football Top 25 Rankings - Oct. 21

Arizona high school football has remained mostly untouched at the top when it comes to the elite teams in the Grand Canyon State this 2025 season.
The Liberty Lions has consistently been Arizona’s No. 1 high school football team in the state, but this week features a new No. 2 in Hamilton after they soundly defeated Pinnacle. Who else joins the aforementioned two teams in the latest set of Arizona high school football Top 25 rankings?
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
Here is the latest Arizona high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Oct. 21.
1. Liberty Lions
Liberty remains the Arizona’s top-ranked team after defeating Centennial, 30-14, last week. The Lions lone loss on the season came against Utah’s Corner Canyon, a 45-14 loss, the Lions (5-1) have been taking it out on any opponent in their path.
For four straight weeks, the Lions have double-digit victories over Highland, winless ALA Queen Creek (0-3), Mountain Ridge and now Centennial, respectively. Liberty had themselves a bye week before they return to action Friday night against Brophy College Preparatory.
Liberty will need players like Boise State commit Paz St. John and Minnesota pledge Hudson Dunn to lead the charge for the Lions’ defense if they look to repeat as Arizona’s Open Division state champions this fall.
2. Hamilton Huskies
Hamilton’s title-drought now stands at 12 years after falling to Liberty in last year’s Open Division semifinals. The Huskies (7-0) are already off to a sizzling start and flexed their proverbial muscle when they romped past Pinnacle, 49-13, last week.
Next up for the Huskies is another major showdown Friday night, this time with No. 3 Basha, which could be one of the best games of the Arizona high school football season.
There’s been no shortage of scoring points for the Huskies’ offense as they’ve put up 353 in their six wins, is anchored by Nebraska commit Rex Waterman, who is one of the best offensive linemen in Arizona. Among the standouts on the season for the Huskies has been a number of contributors, including quarterback Jax Sculley (2,383 yards, 35 touchdowns), running back Skyler Cole (628 yards, six touchdowns) and four-star sophomore wide receiver Roye Oliver, who has caught 52 passes for 1,106 yards and 23 scores.
3. Basha Bears
Basha (7-0) fell to the third spot this week after they crushed Salpointe Catholic, 58-7, last Friday.
The Bears may have come up short last year in their quest to win a second Open Division crown in three years, but undefeated start says this fall say they’ll be back in the AIA Open Division title game. The Bears have opened the 2025 season off with impressive wins over Brophy College Prep, California powerhouse Orange Lutheran and Williams Field.
Quarterback Broderick Vehrs has led a talented Basha offense which features four-star sophomore running back Noah Roberts, three-star wide receiver Jaden Baldwin and four-star offensive tackle Jake Hildebrand. The team’s defensive unit is led by Mason Lewis and linebacker Eli Cramer-Cronin.
There’s no better ticket on the Arizona high school football slate than Friday’s titanic matchup with No. 2 Hamilton, in a battle of unbeaten teams.
4. Chandler Wolves
Was last year an admiration or a sign of things to come for the Chandler Wolves? The program determined to bounce back after posting its first losing season in two decades.

Chandler takes aim at win No. 7 when they take on Cesar Chavez.
5. Centennial Coyotes

This team got hot at the right time last year, winning their first state crown since 2018. Question is, can they do it against despite a slower start?
