Atlanta News First to televise 16 Georgia high school football games

Georgia high school football fans will have more access to the games after Atlanta News First (WANF) and Score Atlanta announced that they will broadcast 16 games in the upcoming season.
As The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Todd Holcomb wrote, WANF will break away from CBS, making it an independent station. Likewise, broadcasting Georgia high school football games is a part of Gray Media’s heavy investment in local sports coverage.
Included in those 16 games are four matches from the Corky Dell + Dave Hunter Classic in August at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. On August 16, WANF will televise the 10 a.m. game between St. Pius and Dunwoody. The Golden Lions finished the 2024 season with a 7-4 record while the Wildcats had a 4-7 mark.
Next on schedule will be the 1 p.m. game between Brookwood and Houston County, which finished 25th in last season’s Georgia On3 Composite Team Rankings. The third game will feature McEachern and Walton at 4 p.m. The Raiders finished at 37th in the Georgia rankings with a 7-4 record. Meanwhile, the McEachern Indians had a 6-5 mark in the 2024 Georgia high school football season.

The final game of the WANF quadruple-header will pit Douglas County and North Gwinnett at 7 p.m. The Tigers ranked seventh in Georgia and 53rd in the nation last season after finishing with an 11-3 record. On the other hand, the Bulldogs were Georgia’s tenth-best team with a 12-1 mark. Douglas County reached the 2024 Georgia high school football Class 6A state semifinals but lost to eventual champions Grayson. Meanwhile, North Gwinnett advanced to the third round of the said tournament but lost to fourth-ranked Buford.
Furthermore, Holcomb wrote, “With WANF on board, the number of games on local Atlanta TV essentially doubles. Georgia Public Broadcasting also televises weekly games during the season, and it broadcasts the state finals at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in December.”
